coil in wrong place

Hi this is my first post, just wondered if anyone else has had similiar.

Had a coil fitted weeks ago, was uneventful apart from feeling a bit sick and dizzy afterwards. Since getting it fitted sex has been unbearable (but thought this was just due to giving birth)and its also been sore going to the loo to move my bowels.

Cut short - at 6 week check strings weren't there, doc arranged ultrasound (for 4 weeks later ) and I find out on Friday that the coil has pierced uterus and is in the Pouch of Douglas which is the space between the uterus and the rectum! So I have to have surgery to have it removed which I'm a bit grr about as it means leaving my baby daughter for a day when she's still bf and hasn't had a bottle yet.

Anyway I love the idea of the copper coil, no hormones etc and have been advised that can have a new coil put in while under anaesthetic (assuming uterus isn't scarred). Just wondered if anyone had this happen before and then gone on to have no problems with coil? (Sorry seem to have rambled on...)

A bit annoyed, but don't think it was put in wrong, more that it moved since. Apparently it's quite rare that it disappears into another part of the body, apparently a coil has usually fallen out if the strings aren't there, or is still in the uterus and can be removed the same way it was put in.

The doc I saw said she wouldn't fit a coil in a breastfeeding mother as early as 6 weeks after birth because the womb is still shrinking! (Not sure where my flat stomach is then )

You poor thing. Hope it goes Okay.

There were a number of threads on here recently about ill mothers in hospital taking thier babies in with them to breastfeed. Basically if they say they are baby friendly (which most claim to be) they have to allow this. One person suggested (if they are being difficult) that you could ask to be put on the postnatal ward. On the other hand you might be pooped after GA and it might not be the best answer for you - but if you would like to kepp lo with you then it might be worth pursuing. HTH

Thanks for info Ohidoliketobebesidethe, if all goes to plan it should only be day surgery and as soon as I'm fit I'll get home, but will keep that in mind just in case.
