Cystitis [blush]

Just woken up to disover I've got a horrible attack of cystitis. I've been up since 4.45am (courtesy of DD who is usually up at 5.45am and the change of clocks) and been to the loo about 20 times so far but feel desperate all the time.

There's a chemist nearby that opens in a while. Is there anythng I can get over the counter or do I have to wait until tomorrow to try to see the doctor?

I'll lay in some cranberry juice in a bit. Its a shame I hate the stuff but I hate cystitis more.

Sorry last time I had this was 3 and a half years ago and I was pregnant and had to see the doctor. Never had it before that

Drink LOTS. Any liquid really. Weak tea or barley water if you hate the cranberry juice. The more you drink the less it stings.

Much, much sympathy!

the chemist should have those sachets of sparkly drinks, that should relieve it.

don't drink cranberry juice unless it is pure without sugar.

if desperate biocarbonate of soda in some water should help too.

There are lots of branded products, or you can get a bottle of potassium citrate which usually works out cheaper.

Are you at the 'peeing blood stage' yet? If so I'd got the out of hours GP at the hospital... if you don't get antibiotics you're not going to get any sleep tonight, are you?

I've had cystitis lots before and find the cranberry capsules and bicarb sachets about as useful as pissing on a house fire [pardon the pun].

Cystitis doesn't need antibiotics.

CombustiblePumpkin · 26/10/2008 09:35

Doesn't always. It can go away on its own in a day or two. If not, it's worth seeing your GP who might give you antibiotics.
