Post-concussion syndrome

Since hitting my head on some scaffolding and suffering bad concussion. I have had slight problems with short-term memory, especially at work. The hospital did say some people have problems for up to 6 months, but I am still a bit concerned!

Has anyone had any experience of this, and can anyone reassure me?

TIA

example - I take something out of cupboard and then look for it for ages, forgetting I have taken it out, or someone asks me to call someone and I completely forget.

Must also add that I had whiplash and my neck is sore at the moment, so not sure if it is something to do with that!

Sorry for all the posts - I told you I was forgetful!

i have no idea but my dad fell off a ladder when we were children and had it. He thought we were all several years younger

Did he improve? Luckily I am not that bad!

My DH fractured his skull in 3 places (skateboarding at 32 - big kid) and had problems with his memory, forgetting what he was doing, saying the wrong word, forgetting what he was saying mid-sentence for quite a while afterwards.

Its probably a bit different because he also had some personality changes - went from ridiculously laid back to very tense, uptight and stressed among other things (very hard on our marraige).

It took him longer than 6 months, but he did recover and is now only forgetful due to lack of sleep caused by my endless tossing and turning during my current pregnancy.

The docs at the time didn't seem at all concerned and said it was a normal response to head trauma, they didn't even monitor him.

If you are worried, I would call your doctor for reassurance.

Thanks. That is reassuring that he is better. I have spoken to my GP who said it can take 6 months, but was just still a bit worried, so grateful for extra reassurance!

Glad he recovered in time!

FFTM - His injury was actually several years ago now. But I would say he was 90 percent back to normal within 12 months.

It was his head injury that made us reassess our lives and decide to try for a baby. We had been together 10 years and always said we didn't want any, but neither of us knew the other one had changed their minds!

We have since had 2 little boys and are now expecting our first girl!

I am glad he is much better...my friends sister eventually got divorced after her husband's head injury made him impossible to live with , it was very sad!

Congratulations on the pregnancy!

Luckily I didn't have a very severe injury, its more frustrating than anything when i keep forgetting!!
