acupuncture

I've just made an appointment to have some acupuncture today to try and help get labour started (I'm 41+2 with No 2) but suddenly realised that this person could be useless and do me more harm than good. Does anyone have any experience of acupuncture please who can tell me what qualifications to check that this lady has?

I had acupunture when I was in the delivery suite because DS got stuck (turned out he was a 'star gazer'). I was 42 weeks. It was offered to me by the midwife and at that point I was happy to accept. TBH it didn't work but maybe that's because DS was in this strange position. I don't know anything about the qualifications you need to practise it, sorry. How did you find the person, was s/he recommended? Was it through a surgery? I'm doubtful that more harm than good will be done but if you feel in the least bit unsure then I wouldn't go. The baby will arrive at some point whether you have acupunture or not, although I remember at this stage I thought my DS was never ever going to arrive.

I went to an acupuncturist near the end of my pregnancy hoping to have her attend the birth, but she only does homebirths... the hospital did have her info though, that's how I heard about her. If the one you've found doesn't particularly specialise in pregnant women then you should ask about their experiences in this area.

Is she a member of the British Acupuncture Council?

I've found her name on the website for the Bristish Assoc of Acupuncture which says that she has a min of 3 years training. She's at a fairly new clinic close to where I live. I think I'll go with my instincts once I meet her.

well, I had the treatment and felt very relaxed and even a bit spaced out afterwards. Now it's just 'wait and see'. I'll let you know cori.
