I just picked up the phone to make an appt to get one sorted but had a wobble again.

The idea of having a little device in there freaks me out.

I'm being ridiculous, aren't I?

I can't risk another unplanned child though. It'll set me over the edge.

I have had the copper coil for a few months. No problems with the fitting and it is great that you don't have to think about it every day BUT my periods are very heavy now. To the point that I've even avoided staying at people's houses incase I spoil the sheets and I have to think about staying close to facilities which is a pain as my job is to be out & about.

I will probably have it taken out if things don't get better but it's worth giving it a go as you might not have that problem. If you don't then it's great.

I've had a plastic coil for 3.5 yrs (have 3 planned children- yes I'm mental!!) Had absoloutly no problems- periods as they were b4 children on my slightly longer cycle and no scares hiccups or 'accidents'. Pill, patch and injections all had hormonal side effects leaving me with vomiting and mood swings so this was my last hope and is happily without any side effects at all. And how do I know it's still there and not lost! like some have had trouble with? the two thin plastic strings from it hang down through the cervix opening so I can just feel them -possibly gross but very re-assuring! and they have no effect on sex :O)
My advice would be- try it. Good luck x

I've taken the leap.

appt booked for 17th november, mirena coil.

stupidly, i have to wait until after my next period because there is a teeny weeny, slimest of slim chance that I could be PG again.

I'm a danger to myself!!!!

Good luck LTH for the lack of pregnancy and the fitting....

grouchyoscar · 23/10/2008 14:07

LTH...Oh dear

I have a copper coil and I'm having it replaced after 5 years next week. The new 'device' is in the bathroom cabinet as we speak. (But it won't get pregnant as it's fallen out with the loo brush)...

....I digress. Had my coil in for 5 years and no DC2 {grin] yay! Other than the 'where are my strings' paranoia previously mentioned I've had no problems at all. My periods were heavy anyway so I didn't notice a problem there.

My DH won't have himself 'done' either, I didn't suit the pill so the coil is great for me.

Fingers crossed for you

Take a couple of ibuprofen 30 minutes before the fitting- it will make it a lot more bearable.
