My 11 month old baby has has a clear runny nose for months! It runs all day, everyday, for about 3 months. It drives him and me MAD!

The doctor says its just one of those things!

Any ideas, we have tried Piriton but no joy, other than a very sleepy baby!

my ds1 had this - yes it may be just one of those things... but try keeping a food diary
my ds turned out to be completely intolerant to anything 'cow' - dairy foods, beef, gelatine etc etc.
I'm not saying cut anything out - you need lots of advice if you even consider this way. But gather some evidence? At a good outcome you can say it has no cause you can see
At 11mo he may well be teething and they seem to have permanent runny noses through this.
plenty things you can note and do info-collecting for now.
HTH

Thanks gigglewatch.......he does have Asthma, well they think so and are treating his cough as if it were so an allergy may well be the cause, great idea thank-you!

ah-ha. now you mention it, ds2 and dd have asthma too (yes what a lovely bunch i have got)
TBH they didn't have runny noses because of the asthma. DD had it when she was given a green inhaler, as when she was 6mo the blue Ventolin didn't appear to work on her, apparently it doesn't always work on babies . Thus the green one was provided - the aim of it being to erm unclog the mucus. Which it did. Copiously. But that not being down to the asthma as such.
Does he have any eczema as well? - again, my lot do, and thus the whole 'allergy' / intolerance debate becomes stronger as they are the sort of little people whose immune systems just kick up at all sorts of stuff.
Fortunately they do grow out of it - or so I'm told. mine haven't yet, but i live in hope

No eczema but very colicy as a tiny baby, broncealitis (sp?) at just 3 weeks despite Breast Feeding! It just runs and runs all day. Maybe he is allergic to me!

lol - wondered the same!!
mine were bf for almost a year each (DD for longer) I had no idea that me having tons of dairy stuff in my diet thinking i needed it, was causing the dc problems. DS1 was also labelled a "colicky baby"
Defo go for that food diary. What milk is he on now?

goldilocksandmylittlebear · 14/10/2008 22:50

Aptimil Follow on about 22oz a day. I'll start the dairy, shall I note all food and how bad the nose and cough are each day? Will the foods that day cause a problem the same day of the next??? I guess thats the point of the diary? oooooooo could be interesting? It may even pin point the foods which casue him to have a mad 20 mins each day!

it may sound bonkers but write down everything, food, drinks and symptoms, also brief note of where you go out to etc?
If only I'd known this / had mumsnet when ds1 was little...don't know about what is in aptamil, worth checking out as well my lot obv had intolerance as they had digestive probs too, but my ds2 sounds most like your LO and his 'triggers' became quite clear within a couple of weeks of writing everything down. A PITA I know but a good way of being a mum-detective. If you have reams of snail-trails after he's eaten biscuits / yogurt / erm, bananas then worth the faff.

gigglewitch · 14/10/2008 23:00

btw worth continuing to ask around - my dc have a 1hr to 2hr reaction with digestive stuff, more like 12-24hrs to set off significant asthma / eczema symptoms.
Would get some more opinions to get a consensus of this reaction time, i don't know anyone in RL with dc like mine.
