I have found out that I will probably need some back surgery/injections at least for a chronic condition. I am not overly impressed by my consultant and would quite like a second opinion and was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for someone they have used and respected? My mum mentioned a royal orthoaedic hospital in stanmore if anyone knows anything about it also. Please PM me if you would rather then post on here. Many thanks

Hi stressed, my step-DD is 12 and she is having spine surgery at the Royal Orthopaedic in Stanmore some time before Xmas (we hope!!) she has scoliosis poor little pickle.

Sorry you are struggling, we have found the hospital great so far, same old same old with the NHS but apparently it is the best place in the country to backs so I would give it a go if you can. They have been great with DD, staff all very nice and they have been great reassuring such a young patient.

Good luck, hope you get sorted.

ScareyBitchFeast · 14/10/2008 22:45

well of course it has to be royal national orthoaedic hosptial in stanmore, very good.

stressed2007 · 15/10/2008 09:35

How can I get referred there on NHS - cant even get an ortho apptment at my local hospital despite my GP referring me - they want to offer physio (great for a condition I am now being told now may need operating!)! What a joke. I am prepared to pay myself now as with 2 young children all our lives are totally wrecked at the moment - any ideas who to see if I just go that route?

can't your gp refer?
do you live nearby?
they have a central london branch as well, W1,

hve you tried ringing rnoh and ask if any surgeons operate privately? there is a bupa hospital nearby

shellye · 15/10/2008 12:22

Are you sure you need surgery? My husband is a Hospital Consultant specialising in Pain Management. He has had some great results with injections and a pain management programme. Surgery should be the very last option.

stressed2007 · 15/10/2008 12:47

who is he? Does he deal with backs? Can I PM you?

ooh I think my dh might see yours!

Is he at Parkside in Wimbledon?

stressed2007 · 16/10/2008 12:42

More importantly can either of the DH's help me? Ha Ha. At least I can still laugh through the pain!

OP posts:
shellye · 16/10/2008 13:58

He does work in Peterborough. I am sure he can help. I know he is my husband but he is very good at his job!

How do I remove my post then? I am often on here but don't often post.x

I think if you press the red exclamation mark on the right you can ask to have the post removed.

unfitmother · 16/10/2008 18:42

You can ask your GP to refer you specifically to RNOH at Brockley Hill, Middlesex. Under the NHS Patient choice you can decide where you wish to be referred to.
