URGENT NITS QUESTION

No 4 has a few eggs in head, I think I'm right. No live lice, but sort of eggs stuck on hair shafts. Pulled a few out with my nails, but he has a party in 2 hours! Shall I Full Marks mousse him or what? I don't like using chemical stuff but just using conditioner and a comb won't get the egg things out, will it? Help please, 'cos I need to go shopping as well. Will sit here and hope for divine help

Yes it will but you'll need to repeat this over the next week to make sure you've got all the little buggers. I'm sure there has been talk on here about herbal remedies too but not sure what these are. I'm sure someone will enlighten you though.

hi - i think conditioner and then combing the little sods out is the recommended treatment. I've heard that teatree shampoo is supposed to keep them at bay.

If you've got eggs at least one live louse must have laid them. I'd wet comb him thoroughly before he goes to the party, then repeat every three days for the next 10 days.

Wet comb. Don't worry about the full marks (which I found never worked any way). The most effective thing is conditioner and nitcombing. A real pain.

Wash hair, add loads of conditioner and comb the little buggers out. Do it every other day for two weeks, longer if you still have them. It works. Bribe the kids to sit still by putting a video on. Wash the comb out between each sweep with water. make sure you do the whole head in swaure inch segments. Tea tree may help to deter them, but that is all, nothing will keep them at bay, not even the insecticides

The visitors are the bane of my life. I've found the only thing that works is conditioner and a comb. Takes time but it works.

If you leave the conditions in his hair they can't move/spread to other children.

You can wash the conditioner out, leaving it in (unless it is a special leave in conditioner) will not help and migh make them itchy. The conditioner immobileses the lice while it is on the head and makes it easier to comb out, that is all. Once it dries it doesn't do anything.

The child is not infectious as only the large mature lice can leave the head, and you will have combed them all out. By combing every 2-3 days you make sure that you comb out the lice before they get big enough to leave the head.

Unless it is a leave in conditioner, wash it out, it will make the kids more comfortable

My dd has nits. Haven't found one live one yet, but lots of eggs. The first time I combed them we found 15, then I did it two days later, only 5, so I thought we were getting rid of them.Last night she was scratching like a girl possessed, so I washed her hair again, and there were 17, plus lots of eggs I pulled out first.
Why is this? I thought that there would be less and less

Don't know if it works but have heard that Mayonnaise works wonders for headlice. It was actually my Slimming World Consultant that told me that she had read it in a health article. ????????????

Dsd, who doesn't live with us, gets nits really badly. I can comb out hundreds when it's bad. I'd agree that conditioner and wet combing every 2-3 days is the best thing to do until they're all gone and then for a couple of weeks after you found the last one. I only use the lotion when I can do 2 treatments a week apart and when she has a particularly bad infestation.

Thanks to mumsnet, I've found a fantastic comb called a Nitty Gritty. I was a bit sceptical that it was yet another supposed wonder cure, but it really is fantastic. DD and I were pretty much clear when I used it but I was gobsmacked at what I got out that the normal comb hadn't. The literature says it gets the eggs out too, and what I really like is that it's not scratchy on the head. DD is only 21m and she doesn't complain when I use it.

this was after i'd spent a fortune on pesticide shampoos which didn't work at all and I was loathe to use in the first place.

vinega is fantastic for head lice, add 1 tablespoon to a pint of water and sponge onto hair and scalp, you need to do this for 10 days and comb hair with nit comb, it is effevtive because the lice do not like the taste of the vinega therefore they will not feed from the scalp & if the dont feed they wont lay eggs. you can sponge the scalp with every hair wash to keep nits at bay also. hope this helps i guarentee it works
