worried about dd2 sighing all the time. any ideas?

Dd2 started sighing about a week or so ago anyway its getting worse she is now sighing about every 10 seconds!

She doesn't seem to be wheezy,

she has just had a cold.

Any ideas?

feel it could be just habit but just want to rule out anything else iyswim

It could be she's a bit depressed. really sad in a young child.

quinne, thats a pretty tenuous connection without any other evidence

sighing is often a reflex to "oxygen debt" meaning you take a deep breath to increase your oxygen intake/blow off more carbon dioxide

does she still have a blocked nose? or a sore throat?

she might be underbreathing a bit, hence the sighs

nothing to worry about, unless you have other concerns about her health or behaviour

carbon dioxide as guy a I work with does

this when his sats are low and co2 high.

She does have a blocked nose a bit so put

some olbus oil on her bed at bedtime.

see your gp if you are worried

that little bit of you that thinks it may be

something else.

docs need a vist I would think.

DD2 does this when she has asthma issues, and she doesn;t wheeze, she sighs.

I would phone your GP with the facts and see what they think. Even if you can?t hear a wheeze, still possibly worth checking as it could be a health indicator of some sort - especially as you say it is continuing to get worse. Hopefully it is just one of those "coldy" blocked nose things kids do. Best to check with the experts though.

Dont mean to panic you but how old is your child ?
In a neonate this can be a sign of many things-if you dd does it again while asleep have a look at her nostrils-nasal flaring is another sign to look out for alongside this.
Prob just a cold but if it continues you really must see your gp.x

thanks fb, she's four but am sure its just habit as she doesn't do it for hours then will start up again.
Her breathing seams completly normal when asleep.
