I am due to go away for a few days, and have just notices that my right eye is twitching occasionally. Just wondered if anyone has any idea's what it could be. I wear contact lenses, but do not remember noticing this before. Does this normally happen before an eye infection or something. Thanks

Don't know, but I get the same thing. It goes in fits and starts, I get it for a few days then it goes away for weeks or months, and then it comes back. It is always the same eye.

I get it occasionally if tired. I don't think you need to worry.

My dh gets this quite often and getting a little tired of having to hear him complain about it I sent him to our GP. The Gp said it was stress related and could also be linked to the fact dh has recently given up smoking.
It did cross my mind that this meant the GP had no idea, if in doubt blame stress!

Thanks, just imagines going away and waking up with my eye welded together or something, thought it might be early signs on an eye infection. Saying that I have not been sleeping too well because of a cold.

I get it when I'm tired (so all the time at the moment- lol)

efmach · 24/02/2003 19:48

breeze, it's normally due to stress or tiredness. It's very disconcerting though, isn't it.

Jimjams · 24/02/2003 20:07

oh god if it's due to stress I'll be renamed "the one with the twitchy eye"...........

Demented · 24/02/2003 22:58

Another twitchy eye over here! I also get what I can only describe as a floater, a small grey/silver oval bit that I can see through one of my eyes at times, does anyone else have something like this?

If it is all caused by lack of sleep and stress well that probably explains it.

Another reason I read was too much caffeine.I have also had this problem in the past that lasted for hours each day for several weeks. Its gone away with an ocassional episode.

tinyfeet · 25/02/2003 03:43

I've had this in both eyes for the past several months, and have had it on and off for the past 6 or 7 years. My GP told me that it was due to fatigue and stress. It is really embarrassing - sometimes in business meetings I slap my hands over both eyes to cover them up and also to try to make them stop. When I tell others what it is, I inevitably hear numerous stories about others who experience the same thing. I don't think it is from caffeine because I only drink 1 cup of coffee in the morning, and the twitches last throughout the day. I've never had an eye infection either, so doubt it's that. Breeze, you are in good company, albeit it stressed out.

hmb · 25/02/2003 08:47

loaters are quite common, more common if you are short sight. You should contact a doctor if they suddenly get worse, but otherwise no problem. I've had them for years.

Demented · 25/02/2003 12:25

Thanks hmb, I will keep an eye on it!

Bit late adding to this thread but twitchy eyes are often caused by too many hours in front of a PC screen ....

breeze · 16/03/2003 09:01

Thanks for that judetheobscured, Ised to work on a pc when I worked before had ds over 3 years ago and recently got a home pc, so it could of been that I was not used to it. Saying that it hasn't happened since, which is a relief as it was like I was winking at everyone.
