had consultant app. today and can fit me in end of nov onwards. I need to sort out when to have it with family to help out. How long recovery did you take, how long off work, how long before you could cope on your own? I have two children who will be 4 and 12 months. Should i wait till after xmas?

mummc2 I hope all goes well for you - I have huge boobs also and I was thinking of getting them reduced. I long to lie on my front and be able to put my head down!

Hope all goes well. I had a wisdom tooth extraction op recently and found phosphorous 600c homeopathic powder remedy fabulous to Quickly recover from the effects of the GA.

arnica 200c tablets is great for bruising and belles perrennis 200c tablets and hypercium tincture applied externally for internal scars.

i suppose you need to get your fitness level up and make sure that you are eating nutritious foods and taking a good multivitamin and multi mineral SOLGAR Female multiple is brilliant.

You are probably better to have it after xmas - lifting heavy turkeys etc is best done by someone who hasn't got healing wounds /scars and pain.

HTH! and good luck - keep us posted as to how you get on won't you?

mummc2 I never got a chance to thankyou for your response to my breast reduction questions a while ago, not much time for mumsnet lately.
I am booked in after xmas and I am also scared but excited.
I think my biggest fear is the actual surgery, and also the idea that when I walk in I will feel fine but then waking up in pain.
I have a 2 and 3 year old so going to need lots of support from family.

What sort of things are you doing in the lead up?

I had mine on xmas eve last year, mine were 4 and 18months, I moved xmas to the 23rd, I figured they were just young enough to do this without them noticing.
It was the best thing I have ever done, i have had no back pain since and I used to be up half the night every night in pain.
The recovery i would say the 1st 2 weeks you cant really do much at all, i got dh to take this off work, the next 2 weeks you can do quite a bit but your arms are vey resticted and sore and definatley no lifting, so you would have to be very careful with little one. the last 2 weeks you are getting back to normal i was back to fully fuinctioning at 6 weeks, able to drive at 3 or 4 (probably could earlier but I had no nbeed o). The first few days after the op you will be very groggy and very very tired so you definalty need someone around to look after you.

I'm glad you have moved it. I managed to run my pre-school annual fete/trike ride 5 days post op but would not recommend it!

Realistically, I was fine after a week, most of the time, but had dh at home for 4 weeks afterwards (he was on gardening leave) and I was very glad of his help- there were days when I just could not cope with anything post 1pm, and had to go to bed and rest. Of course if dh hadn't been around after that first week I would have managed, but I don't think my full recovery would have been so quick.

4 weeks 5 days post op we went on holiday and I was completely back to normal.

The worst thing I found about the hole process was not being able to be clean. You can't get the dressings wet , so no showers above the waist for 2 weeks at least. And it was too uncomfortable to lean over the bath to wash my hair or have dh to do it, which was hell, until dh suggested I go to the hairdressers to have my hair washed and blow-dried, which I would definitely recommend doing every few days

Hi MumMc2 I recently had a breast reduction (am now 3 weeks post op). I have 2 young children ( 10mths and 3.5 yrs) and am due to return to work tomorrow. Feeling physically great although a bit swollen and sore along incision lines. Had help with the children for the first 10 days but have managed since on my own-just being careful when lifting the baby. A really helpful website is 'www.breasthealthonline.org'. In my experience the worst part was the pre-op nerves and anxieties.
All the best x
