Having my coil changed

I have a copper coil. It's kept me BFP free for it's allocated 5 years so it's time to get a new one.

Has anyone else experienced this proceedure? The initial fitting was straight forwards as it was only 3 mths after DS's arrival so I feel everything was a bit more limber than today.

I'm getting rather anxious about it now. Advice/experiences gratefully received

My doctor took mine out quite smoothly, much easier then putting it in. It was out in seconds.

Take a few nurofen if you want beforehand.

I need to get mine changed but since childbirth have an irrational fear of being examined 'down there'

I had a change a month ago and it really wasn't too bad, I just needed a couple of Ibuprofens.

Mine was a Mirena for heavy periods though, it seemed a little larger than the ordinary one. Sadly don't need contraception anymore as I was widowed in June . It really was OK though don't worry the nurse was very kind.

I can empathise.I should have had mine changed about 18 mnths ago but too scared as the doc botched up putting it in, and it was bloody agony. Squealed like a pig.

Had it done recently, but it was about 3 months post childbirth. Hardly felt it, they now use an anaesthetic gel on your cervix which helps a lot, I barely noticed it.

a friend had same as shivermetimbers left it 7years in the end no pain coming out but said if she wanted could have done under general anasthetic

Don't you risk getting pregnant if you are overdue for a new coil?
