do you need to have NHS card or at least know your number

in england if you dont have a medical card you fill in a purple form asking for name, adress, date and place of birth, maiden name, previous adress and dr and nhs number, the latter of which i dont know

how do you register in scotland? and how o you register baby whos never been registere elsewhere

you register the same way you do in England and Wales.

you usually have to fill in forms and sometimes show proof of address (like a council tax book) if it's a very busy surgery.

i've never been asked for my NHS card but i do have one.

most forms ask your nationality and when you write in 'British' it's never been a problem.

so were you asked for all the above, do you need birth cert for baby? i lost the form registrar gives you when you register birth

i really don't remember any purple form but there may have been one in our last surgery, which was pretty huge.

i think if you cannot complete the forms you've been given it's best to go into the surgery and ask.

The GMS1 is indeed the form you fill in when you want to register at a practice (in England / Wales). In England and Wales we have the Choices website that tells you all about GP practices and lots more beside. In Scotland it looks like you have to start with the region you're in and then look for a link that explains how to register with a practice.

Your baby's probably been registered automatically at your surgery, were you sent an NHS card for her/him? (Not all PCTs print them).

You won't need to know your NHS Number, most people don't.

no nhs card for baby

you dont get your nhs card for the baby until you register them with the doctor. Why not contact the surgery you want to register with and ask them what info they need to register both you and your baby.

I registered DD at our GP this week, we did have the card from the registrar and it has the baby's NHS number on it so I think they do need that. It should be easy to get a new one from the registry office?

Saying that it was bloody difficult to get a registrar to see us to even get the baby registered there. The GP was a doddle after that!
