Chapped Skin

Hi, My little girl is teething (again - groan!)and she is dribbling more than ever. It's never been quite so bad and the constant wetness on her chin has caused it to become very sore, red, chapped and angry looking, it has been getting steadily worse for a couple of months now. I am hoping someone out there knows of any 'magic' creams or lotions to help it heal...? Any suggestions?

My HV suggested a very thin layer of barrier baby cream or petroleum jelly. I used Sudocrem as it was all I had handy, it worked but it does say to avoid eyes and mucus membranes and seek help if swallowed so I may pop out and get some Vasoline next time.

Vasoline - every time! Great on sore bottoms, great on sore noses, thanks to colds, and great on chapped lips and chins.

My HV told me to use it when our son was newborn and had dry skins on his wrists and ankles.

I use it myself on chapped lips and around my nose when it gets all sore with a nasty cold.

Its cheap and lasts for ages!

you could try the Neal's Yard baby barrier cream

lizzer, i would say vaseline too, or some kind of lipsalve - some of them are medicated so help heal as well and are obviously ok round mouths.
another possibility is a nelsons cream but its name escapes me - possibly calendula? comes in a grey tube from health-type shops - it is a marvellous healer, works overnight on things like paper cuts...

My little boy had very chapped skin round his mouth which he kept licking. The cream that cleared it up was the Earth Friendly Baby red clover nappy cream! Their calendula daily moisturising cream is also good for chapped cheeks.

I found something that you can buy from the chemist absolutely brilliant - it was called "Aqueous Cream" or something like that, and it came in a massive and very cheap tub! My little boy has quite sensitive skin in the winter (oh god it's spring isn't it!) and is champion dribbler, and putting it on a couple of times a day has really helped. I think it's a barrier cream, and it's very gentle so it could be worth a go.

Thanks for all your suggestions! Never thought about vaseline - even though I use it on my own lips, duh! I may have to try some of the others too as it's getting worse, poor thing. Thanks once again, didn't think there was so many around!!
