Could be carpal tunnel syndrome.

flubdub · 24/09/2008 14:56

At 22? What causes it?
Eeek!

Strange that it is those fingers. Carpal is predominately thumb and two fore fingers. Do you type alot.? On MN ?

RubberDuck · 24/09/2008 15:04

I get the same sometimes - I think it's something to do with trapped nerves in the elbow or shoulder area (I quite often get it in the night if I sleep funnily on that side) and get it on and off over the last 7 years (started just after I had ds1).

RubberDuck · 24/09/2008 15:04

(I get it in my left hand - little finger, ring finger and sometimes middle finger)

RubberDuck · 24/09/2008 15:06

Yep - due to the nerves in the elbow:

What is causing my pins and needles

Did you bang your elbow badly recently?

As I say, I only get it on and off occasionally - so I can't be arsed to go to the GP

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 24/09/2008 15:08

I had this for about 3 months last year - constantly!

Finally gave in and went to docs, he didn't know so referred me to somewhere ( mind has gone blank) by the time the referral came through it had gone, so I cancelled the apt.

I think it is something to do with sleeping with your hand under the pillow/under your head, more a shoulder thing.

I still get pins and needles in it occasionally, and my hand has never felt as 'strong' as it did before.

RubberDuck · 24/09/2008 15:08

Guyon's Canal Syndrome - can also be caused by lots of gripping with the hand trapping nerves in the wrist or further up the arm.

RubberDuck · 24/09/2008 15:09

Natalie - yes, funnily enough I sleep on my left side with my hand under my head. Another mystery solved

uberalice · 24/09/2008 15:11

Trapped Ulnar Nerve. I get this a lot, could have an op but so far haven't bothered (I've got 2 small children, so can't afford to be without the use of my hards!). It helps to keep your arms outstretched when you're asleep - don't bend them at the elbow. Also, had to stop wearing rings as they made it much worse.

flubdub · 24/09/2008 15:15

Oooooh, well, I was v drunk last night, and fell asleep in a rather undignified postition in the bathroom
Its the first time in years, I swear.
So that might explain it.
So my arm isnt going to drop off then?

Hurrah! MN to the rescue again. I couldnt find much on Google.

Oh, this thread is the most bizarre coincidence. I was just wondering what to do about this same problem in my right hand. Pins and needles in little finger and one next to it - it also feels cold. My DH reckons it's cos I sleep in it funny, tucked under the pillow. It appears he's right!

OneLieIn · 24/09/2008 15:25

My DD complains a lot about her hands hurting and her fingers being unable to grip. She says it feels tingly - what do you think this could be?

I know I should go to the GP, but if you had my GP....

cremolafoam · 24/09/2008 15:36

CTS is usually only in the thumb, index and middle fingers so prob not that

BecauseImWorthIt · 24/09/2008 15:39

I sometimes get this if my shoulders/neck are seizing up a bit. A quick trip to the osteopath usually sorts it out.

bruxeur · 12/11/2009 06:21

It's due to an acute shortage of punctuation.

Cakesandale · 13/11/2009 14:22

With apologies to NKfffefff (etc) (and I believe she will find the answer to her question in the posts before her own, probably) - I just want to say "thank you" to Bruxeur. Your reply has just really made me laugh.
