So do you pee sitting down when away from home?

One of the mothers at DS's school has asked whether the school could provide either cling film like covers for the loo seats or antiseptic spray so that her DD (age 5) can sit on the loo to pee rather than hovering over the loo. I expressed surprise that it was necessary and innocently said that if the seat isn't wet I just sit down and pee. (If the seat is wet, I grab some loo paper, wipe the seat and then plonk myself down.) The other mothers were horrified as if I had just announced that I washed my face in the loo as well.

Am I alone in this ie am I weird to be so casual (as the other mums clearly think)? I have to say what I think is weird is to hover over the loo and so dribble pee on the seat that I then have to wipe off

Thanks for all your responses on this - I am beginning to feel less like the weirdo with poor personal habits than I was . I wonder whether thinking on this varies with nationality. The other mums who were so horrified by my sitting were French and Italian (going to an international school can be a mixed blessing)

Oh well, what do you expect from foreigners!

French? When we visited France there were mostly those hole-in-floor style loos, thus nowhere to sit should you dare to wish for it - so how could french mums be so choosy?
Not wishing to cast any french mums in a negative light of course

Cannot believe that grown women can really make so much fuss about things! Blimey!

was amazed at my colleague revealing her hovering methods seems she is not alone

so glad i know this now

FGS! I used to work in a sexual health clinic and the mantra of one of the Consultants there was 'the only thing you can get from a toilet seat is a wet bum!' . You would be surprised by the number of people who genuinely think they have caught their STI from a toilet seat!!

dd was earlier today telling me how aged about 5 she wiped all the seats in the school loos!! proceded to tell her teacher, who advised her that they would do it

so in answer - they do notice a wet seat

I suppose it's not that dangerous normally but you would not get me near a hospital loo. C diff spores can survive for up to a year even outdoors. the amount of bleach I've had to use in my own bathroom just to feel safe from reinfection is amazing.

That's why it's called a superbug though. And you do usually have to be immune compromised, elderly, or have had a lot of antibiotics (or just strong ones) before you're vulnerable to it.

I shall continue to hover
