Lump on/ near the caesarian scar - sometimes painful

I've got an appointment to see the gynaecologist tomorrow but I am a little scared so hoping for some responses along the lines of "I had something like that and it turned out to be nothing serious".
I have a lump just below the left hand side of my caesarian scar. It feels about the size of a small egg. I noticed it a while ago (maybe eight months) and managed to convince myself that it was just my imagination, but now it is bigger.
It is always sore and tender when I have my period but four months ago I came off the pill and had my period and the pain was huge: it made me vomit (and i used to think that period pain was not really pain at all, so this is different from before. I immediately put myself back on the pill and promised I would go and see the doctor. Finally going tomorrow.

I had some physio after the caesarian and the therapist said there was some scar tissue there (which I could not feel) but now I can feel something. Its a bit tender all the time - my DS likes to run into me and I sort of flinch in anticipation now.

I've done a bit of internet hunting and found something called caesarian scar endometriomis. Has anyone ever had this or symptons like mine. Please tell me its nothing (and i know i am stupid for not going to the doctor sooner but I do not live in the UK and so every word is different and honestly i don't trust the local doctors to not just make up a treatment just so they can earn bigger fees!).

Oh, poor you; sounds nasty

how long is it since you had the section?

A friend of mine had a slow growing abcess on her scar due to an infection that didn't get sorted out properly with ABs just after the birth. It didn't start bothering her until about 15 months after the birth iirc.

I hope it can be sorted out easily and painlessly though!

I have this but it's on my right side of my scar...it can get really sore and if it's particulary bad (depending on time of the month) if i move too quickly (e.g..from sitting to standing, turning over in bed) it's really bad and feels like a ripping...at that point i swear lots. It feels like a hard area when i fiddle around, and tender.

I have been too scared to go to the doctor (i know!)..but did googled and came up with the scar tissue thing-and nothing much can be done i read as any op to correct it would then go on to produce more scar tissue.

Please let me know how you get on-very curious!

It's been almost 4 years since my 2nd c-section and has gradually got worse.

how long for you?

amygirl · 22/09/2008 22:11

4 1/2 years, so roughly the same. I will tell you IDBN what the gyno says tomorrow. It was only when the period pain was agony that I felt I had to do something about it. Now I am plain scared to have a period!

Thanks amygirl that would be great.

Good luck!

Hi amygirl, hope you are ok after your appointment

I am fine! The gynaecologist listened to mz description and said "it is endometrius". Then she examined me and realised it was not in the womb and so she changed her mind immediately and said it is "a reaction to the sutures from the Caesarian". I have had 2 c sections (6 & 4 years ago) and she reckons there was little care taken in sewing me back together well.
She said that 4 years is nothing and it can take a long time for the reaction to go. Then she said i would have the lump for the rest of my life but I should go back on the pill or have an IUD fitted to stop the periods and minimise the pain. Meantime she recommends extra strong pain killers.
It doesnt really make sense to me - why would it start growing 3 years after the section and why should it hurt like hell when i have a period but only be a little sore the rest of the time? But knowing the country I am in this is the best I am going to get here, so until i move back to the UK I am just going to go with her diagnosis and treatment.
At least it is not cancer which was my darkest fear when I realised I have a lump.

Look at this link though:

Will look at that link now. It does seem a bit strange re:timing. But like you said at least it's not cancer.

I have had 2 sections too. First one was 7 1/2 years ago...i was getting a slight pain a while after this one....when mentioned whilst pregnant with 2nd set of twins they said it was prob hernia and they would take a look when i had c-section. When they opened me up they couldn't see anything.
The pain this time round is a lot worse though. It is so strange it is getting worse and worse. You'd expect a reaction to be there at the beginning and now getting better.

The only think i can think is that everything swells up a bit when you are on a period so that might be why its more painful at these times.

It did say when googling last night that it is often mis-diagnosed as there is not much known about it and it is quite rare.

Idobelieveinfairies · 23/09/2008 16:57

I saw that site last night when i googled, really sounds like that is what we have.

I did read previously that an op to take away the scar tissue can in itself lead to more scar tissue forming...so no better off-what a bummer.

Well i was sterilised with last section so don't really fancy a coil in there as well, but oral pills might be the way to go-however it is getting just as painful when not on period.

I think i will make appointment to see my doctor-see what he says!

I will keep in touch!

Did you go to the dr Idobelieveinfairies?
I had my period over the last week - agony. When the gynae wrote it off as scar tissue and I believed her because I wanted to, there was only the tiniest pain and I only had a memory of big pain. Now I've had a massive reminder - painkillers don't even touch it - and i really think I need to get it properly diagnosed. but how? I am in a foreign country where specialists say things like "I want to tell you you've got cancer. The tumour is inoperable now because I missed it a year ago. Oh well." (direct quote to someone I know).
So how do I go about getting this diagnosed and treated???
