Thyroid overactivated itself, anyone with this?

Just been diagnosed with a very overactive thyroid gland. I know the treatments are quite rough, and if no treatment is done you could eventually die of a heart failure or storke. Anyway, what`s the good side in this? I have lost almost a stone, but have another to lose. Bit worried because my dd is 1 in 4 days, and cant really face a radioactive treatment... Has anyone gone through this??? Aparently pregnancy is involved and inheritance...

It's outrageous to have to pay for asthma medication isn't it - there must be loads of other essential medication that you have to pay for. Where can the line be drawn but you need to breathe FGS.

Had horribly overactive one - had surgery when I was 21. Take 200mcg thyroxine every day.

Is that the hypo as apposed to hyper?

I have an underactive thyriod and I take 150mcg of thyroxine aday (they have just changed the name though I think)

I am thinking that I might need to have my levels checked as I tried to diet for 2 weeks and only lost 2lbs and am as usual completly knackered

Willow2 does that mean you were overactive and the surgery made you underactive???

Exactly. They remove all (or nearly all) of the thyroid gland as it has a tendency to grow back otherwise. Took them about a month or two to work out I needed thyroxine to compensate - by which time I'd put on two stone and kept falling asleep everywhere - so now I'm on it every day.

agree completely with the diagnosis saving your marriage, I was unbearable to live with for a long time and we thought it was just being tired with 2 non sleeping kids. Now I am a normal human being again... most of the time.

I've been on 200, 175 and 100 and my weight hasn't altered one jot with any of those doses but maybe that's because I am still BF

38 - 150 means I'm slightly under and 200 means I'm slightly over but I can't stand how knackered I feel on 150, or how easy it is to put on weight!

Sorry, should have been more specific - am only happy being slightly over.
