hi for many years i have had problems with my back and have large breasts, i spoke to an old school friend and she'd had a reduction and said it was best thing she ever did.I spoke to my doctor and he referred me and i have just received a letter to say funding has been approved. BUT, am really scared!! this is major surgery and takes along time to recover from, with two kids that may be difficult. I would really like some advice from anyone who has been through this already, whats it like? Scars? Pain? Recovery? Husbands reactions? HELP anyone

I am hoping to have one myself but not for a couple of years as would like another baby and to be able to breastfeed.
However because of this i have spoken to a few people and researched into it a little.
I personally am only going ahead because for years i have had neck problems and am presently of sick with a trapped nerve thr this. All because i am a size 10 with 32 g breasts which are supported by my bra which has to pull on something however well fitted !
I think if you have problems then you should benefit greatly but wont be able to drive for a few weeks and will need someone around to help with kids for around 2 weeks.
Everyone ive spoken to (4 people )all had differrent experiences. They all said it was painful.2 had post op infections. But all said they were very glad they did it. You will be given lots of info before you sign the consent form anyway so at least youve got the go ahead and can now consider it seriously.
Good luck x

Hi thanks, i am a 32/34 gg and before i had my dds was a 10/12 like you and its awful it puts so much strain on your whole upper spine and body. I wanted to join the fire service but while training always suffer with back/pains apart from the nearly knocking ourselves out of course!! Lol!! My friend said u really have to be quite o.c.d with the cleaning. She had hers 3 years ago scars are quite visible but have faded alot but was well worth it. However, extremely painful. I looked into it before i had dd2 and had x-rays and physio to see if back would improve or wether it was breasts causing problems. Also decided to wait til had another because of bf, now dd2 is 10 month hence the applying. Thanks for your imput, Good to know there is others like me out there, getting fed up of people saying "Ooohh i would love to have breasts like yours what you moaning about??!!"

I had the op a year ago and it all went very smoothly. I had it done on a Wednesday and was driving by saturday. I had to be careful picking up DD for about a week (she was 1) and I was very tired after the anesthetic. I actually stayed at my Mum's so that she could help with the children.

The bandages came off after a week and it looked horrible!! I refused to look for ages - I didn't really prepare myself for what they would look like. At the time I thought my nipples looked like pumpkins that had had the tops cut off then put back on all wonky! (IYSWIM)

After about 4 weeks they had settled down loads - I had a slight infection in one side but it went quickly with antibiotics.

After 5 weeks I went underwear shopping and was complemented by the fitter! They really do look great, very pert and the scarring is hardly noticable. I felt so much better about my body (I even posted pictures on here on a similar thread a few months ago!!)

IT is a major operation but my recovery wasn't too traumatic at all. Research questions to ask your consultant - I actually only needed a small amount of tissue removed but a large amount of skin.

I really am thrilled with the results - am just hoping that I haven't ruined it all by getting pregnant!! Hope this helps.

hi thanks im pretty similar to you by the sounds of it. I have big boobs but not full, more skin than tissue, whereas my friend who had it done was really full and heavy but tight skin. Probably due to the fact she hasnt had any kids!!! Do you know what procedure they did on yours, was it the anchor type? Ive read alot about the dr stevens laser bra technique but dont know if they do it over here. What hospital did you have it done at?

I had it done at the Nuffield Hospital in Shrewsbury, my consultant was Dan Prinsloo. He was great (has also performed an enlargement on my friend.) When I saw my GP she commented on what great work it was.

Yes it was the anchor, don't know about other techniques. The scarring really isn't noticable now (or I've got used to it!) My before and after photos are really quite amazing - I would upload them for you but our main computer, where they are stored, is in storage.

I seem to remember that there is supposed to be an equilateral triangle between your nipples and your chin!! I can't remember the measurements but I was way out before

mummc2 · 19/09/2008 09:22

wow sounds like yours went great lets hope i get a gud surgeon too.my friend near me i dont want her surgeon, her scarring still quite visibly strong. yeah ive seen em draw the triangle thing on before surgery and measure you. Anything would be better than the big droopy sacks ive got!!! just waiting for my consultant appointment but will be back on these threads at a later date no doubt for more support, THANKS.

hi, i am 23 and have 2 children. I went to see my GP at the start of the year about requesting a breast reduction. I have 34GG breasts and my BMI is 25. Doctor thought i was good criteria for a reduction, but later found my PCT would not fund me, my doctor later called and said she is discusted, and to try physio for a while to see if it helps my back and shoulder pain. I have now started my phisio and am on my 2nd session soon. I was just wondering if anyone has any tips for getting my physio therapist to send a letter saying they cant help me to my doc, so i can re-apply for funding again? and have more of a chance of being accepted? Do i just keep complaining it isnt helping?
thanks guys x
