Macmillian nurses?

My mum has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Mum is starting her chemo tomorrow but today we have spent the morning at the hospital as she started coughing up quite a bit of blood (sorry tmi) her oncologist has assured us that this is normal.

I am shocked that my mum has gone down-hill quite rapidly since we have been told that she has lung cancer (about 3 weeks ago) we sound today that she gets very breathless, my sister had to get the car as there was no way thst she was able to walk any further. Also while we were waiting for the oncologist we had breakfast and she could only eat a piece of toast and complained that she felt bloated.

At what stage would mum be offered the help of the macmillian nurses?

everyone's advice really useful, is just so that everyone who has given advice has had to deal with loved ones who has had/got cancer.

No-one tells you anything, this is what i find so frustrating, i didnt know that the gp could refer to the macmillian nurses, I did ask for a district nurse to call to the house to do mums blood tests on monday, ready for chemo on wednesday. But i never knew that the district nurses work evenings.

it's a learning curve all this stuff and not easy stuff to be facing/living with.
DN work 24/7 we had them out three times a night sometimes. towards the end we would have to get them out to help with lifting and changing steve, they were all very lovely and made a very difficult situation a bit easier for steve and for me and the kids.

Hows it going t2t?
On a slight tangent (but again, can't be much 'practical' use) would you like to borrow my slow cooker so you can try one out? Just thinking for meals for your dad etc it might be easier for you rather than cooking everything (sorry for slight hijack but wanted to put this where you woudl see it)
If you want me to have kids while you talk to someone you only have to ask, I think the suggestion of you talking to one is a good diea as they will have more idea about what they can do to help your mum.

chirpy, im alright, just fed up with my mums refusal to do anything, apart from lay on the sofa. If you dont mind i will try the slow cooker one day next week.
