Any GOOD stories abou the mirena coil

Hi All.....just joined as I am doing some last minute research on the mirena coil. My doc suggested I have one fitted as I have VERY heavy periods/flooding which made me very anaemic. She just gave me a leaflet to read, said the periods may stop and dismissed my fears that it may cause weight gain. I already have back problems that are made worse by my 'CHUNKINESS' I am at last managing to lose weight and to be honest my back problems cause more problems that the periods so I dont want to put on more weight. I'm due to have one fitted tommorrow by the practice's doc that does the fittings. At the moment I'm thinking I'm gonna cancel the fitting and just have a chat with this doc that does all the fittings and may have more information to give me, rather than just shoving a leaflet in my hand!!

Anyway sorry, yakking on too much!

My Question is.....I have found 100's of horror stories on here about the mirena, causing weight gain, bleeding for months or years on end, mood swings, suicidal thoughts, spots, back pain etc etc etc and I'm thinking WOOOOAAAAHHHHH!!! Hold on there, what EXACTLY are the benefits.......So does anyone have any good stories, can anyone put my mind at rest, I know you can have them removed but at the moment I'm thinking keep that blomin thing away from me.

Thanks all.....sorry for the very long winded first post!!

xx

I've had my mirena fitted a couple of months ago. I've been bleeding a little every day but nothing compared to debilitating period I got after DS2.
I had also put on 5 pounds on the pill (that's in 6 weeks!!!!!) and lost them all (and more) on the mirena. OK, that's also because I've been a VERY good girl (Lent + getting married in August. Only 4 pounds to go to reach IDEAL PRE_BABY WEIGHT!!!)(Well, I've added a few allowed pounds as I don't think that will ever happen).
Anyway, I think mirena's great so far. GP told me she doesn't understand why more women don't use one as she thinks it's the best invention ever...
Maybe, if all is well for you, it's better not to read the horror stories? (a bit like birth, the pill etc...)
PS FEeling VERY sorry for all those who have had problems with their mirena...

Mine is fine. Fitted at 8 week check, some spotting. Still no return of period after stopping breastfeeding a month ago.

Really really straightforward after the irritating few weeks of random bleeding.

Recommend it.

loved mine - had one for 4 years before having it removed to conceive dd2.

I didn't gain weight and my periods vanished.

Have had another one fitted this afternoon, so I'll see what happens this time...

Hi,I am new to this site, but was just doing some research, as had Mirena fitted on 26th March to stop constant heavy bleeding, and after 2 weeks of spotting/ light bleeding every day I am now flooding again, I am hoping that this will calm down in the next couple of weeks as at the moment I am feeling it isnt much better than I was before. I have not put on ant weight and have no spots, pains or headaches. I didn't find the insertion much more painful than a regular smear test, and apart from some cramping on first day of insertion and some breast pain which was quite intense, to the point of waking me in the night for a couple of nights this week, I am fine...I just want the bleeding to settle down. I am hoping I will be one of the lucky ones who gets light or no periods.
