OK, my situation is this: I will have to fly to the US for this op, and if I discuss it with the surgeon and then need time to decide, I will have to come back to Bermuda and think about it and then fly back to the US - I really don't want to do all that flying about. So I need to have my preferences in mind before I meet the surgeon. Obviously they won't be cut and dried, I accept that the surgeon might consider my choices unsuitable and advise me differently, but I need to at least know what my preferences are, before I go.
I exercise a lot, but I'm unable to do anything involving impact on my ankle, so I can't run. I do a lot of floor exercises, non-impact aerobic exercise on a strider machine, and I swim.
I am about 2 stone overweight and have spare skin on my tummy having given birth three times. I am concerned about losing the muscle in my abdomen with the tummy-tuck style tram-flap operation. A tummy-tuck will look nice at first but the loss of the muscle there could mean a saggy abdomen later on without the possibility of using exercise to tighten it up.
I don't like the idea of an implant. I wonder how people manage to dress during the weeks/months their skin is being stretched beforehand, it all sounds very tricky, and I have heard that people have problems with implants. I much prefer the idea of using my own tissue.
I wonder if the tram-flap using skin and muscle from my back would be the best route?
I hope you can see my dilemma and understand why I would be interested in as many opinions and experiences as I can gather.
