How insensitive of your friend.

I'll bet they wouldn't like it.

I honestly know how you feel, I have been steadily growing a beard since I was 22. I've been so self-conscious about it over the last 16 years, I constantly fiddle with the hairs and pull them out with my fingers. For sometime it's been too much to manage with tweezers plus I get ingrowing hairs which are unsightly. I can't take the pill, I get miserable, I tried electrolysis and it didn't have any effect. I've saved up for ages to get laser treatment. I've had one treatment and I'm impressed so fingers crossed it lasts.

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 13/08/2008 21:06

I have pcos and am getting more and more chin hairs - it is upsetting but then I'm generally hairy - have arms like an ape! can't wax anywhere as I have super sensitive skin and end up with infected folliculis which is worse than being hairy . I'm really glad you saw the doc today, very brave indeed and I hope the cream helps a bit, if you do end up having pcos there could well be something else you could take to balance out your hormones and help with the hair.

whymeeee · 13/08/2008 21:12

Oh its not exactly pleasing to know there are other sufferers. Its just bloody awful isnt it WOuldnt wish it on anyone.
My laughing friend wasnt doing it to be nasty, it was the ridiculusness of the situation she/we managed to find humour in
The doctor said the pill, a pill, or removal of whatever may be on my ovaries. Did I want any more dc he asked.

You know whymeeee, if you can find a college near you that needs volunteers for electrolysis then you should put yourself forward.
When I was training we had a lady who came in every week, ansd she had pcos. She had a full beard. She shaved it though so she always had a red face.
I know it sounds daunting but it would cost you nothing and you would get some professional treatment.

luckylady74 · 14/08/2008 18:22

I'm a fellow plucker - why is electrolysis not as good as lazer? Keep wanting to do something, but too embarassed to explain to dh what the money's for -I'd prefer to think he's never noticed the 20 pairs of tweezers in the house!

QOD · 14/08/2008 18:22

Oh i want some of that cream!
My dr just looked, agreed and suggested electrolysis, have had loads, they always come back. ALso had the soundwave version - again they came back
SOmetimes they say I have PCOS sometimes they say I don't....
HE did imply losing weight would help.
Sigh.

charliecat · 14/08/2008 21:08

Hmm, peels whymeeee mask off.
The doctor said while flicking through his book, you can only have the cream for 4 months.
I said, does it not come back when you stop using it, he said no it kills the ...something.
It doesnt. It will come back.
Even van..whatever its calls website doesnt claim that it will kill the...root/where its coming from. Anyway, out of disguise, hairyme.

luckylady74 · 14/08/2008 21:13

I have to say when I weighed 2 stone less I was plucking far less and I have endemetroisis too (controlled by mirena at moment) so maybe i should be on the weight nloss section!

charliecat · 14/08/2008 21:15

Im lardy, but not massive.

ilovemydog · 14/08/2008 21:17

did you ask about laser treatment on the NHS?

I don't know what the criteria is, but couldn't you call a laser hair removal place and ask? (think the best ones are registered with the Health Commission?)

luckylady74 · 14/08/2008 21:19

well done for outing yourself charliecat! My friend was moaning about seeing her white hairs in the car mirror and I was thinking well at least white hairs not embarassing -everyone dyes it.
I get in the car and look in the mirror and the kids start saying can we go now! I had my first one at 15 - 19 yyears of plucking!

jeee · 14/08/2008 21:22

Can I just ask, are there any risks attached in lasering off hairs - all the stuff from the places that do it is so positive, and I'm sure there must be some risks, if it's powerful enough to kill the hairs. Cancers or scarring - if I knew the risks I could make an informed decision.

charliecat · 14/08/2008 21:23

I didnt ask about any laser treatment BUT now I have been to the docs I will keep at it until its under control if nothing else.
Bloody AWFUL. And i keep looking at my dds thinking SHIT have I inflicted this on you two I would NEVER of had kids if I had dreamt a they would end up with a hairy mum, and b they could end up the same way.
Car mirror...shhh...I know

booge · 16/08/2008 21:44

I investigated laser on the NHS but I think it's very rarely offered.

WakyWally · 28/01/2024 19:01

I relate totally. I could grow a beard. Had it since early 30s. Told the GP last month. She could not care less. Said everyone gets it as they get older. I immac twice a week.if you feel my chin afterwards you can feel the stubble
