I have been suffering from occasional numbness in my hands for a several weeks now, it only happens now and again and it is starting to worry me. I have a doctors appointment, but not until next thursay, and i do tend to worry about things a great deal. Does anyone have any idea's on what this could be (non worry), to at least put my mind at rest until the doctors.

It could be Carpal Tunnel syndrome, something that can affect pregnant woman in particular, having said that I get it myself and haven't been pregnant for 15 years!! I went and had all sorts of motor and nerve impulse tests. I could have an op to relieve it, but the op can cause more problems sometimes than it cures. I am suppose to weqr splints at night but found them very uncomfortable.

Hope all goes okay at the docs.

RSI from using Mumsnet too much

Seriously, bad positioning when using a computer for long periods of time can lead to aches, pains and numbness. I get terrible aches and burning in my left shoulder when I don't sit straight to get my regular does of the boards. Make sure that your work position is ergonomically correct and that you are at the right height in relation to the keyboard.

I too had numbness, in hands and arms, and it turned out to be a trapped nerve in my neck, due to using too many pillows at night. I cut down to one, and it seemed to help. It could also be Carpel Tunnel Syndrome though. My dad had it, and apparently, it can start around 30.

Happydays you don't say if you are pg...I had CTS very badly with second pregnancy (rather earlier than usual) and used combination of splints at night and reflexology to deal with it thank goodness. It went away and has not come back, even with being pg again. If you are not pg there are many other things that can be done including op as Alibubbles says, steroid injections, physio etc. But best to discuss with doc.

Must admit that i suffer from numbness in my hands, it always happens when i am on the computer, noticed that i rest my chin on the back of my hand with my elbow on the table, not a textbook position for computer work.

happydays I had carpal tunnel syndrome really badly before I ever had kids or was pregnant. My thumb and the next two fingers on each hand would get numb and even sore and it was interfering with my ability to do my job.
I got the op Alibubbles mentioned, one hand at a time with a month off work each time. It was inconvenient and a bit worrying at the time but was 100% successful
