Just put my Pj's on and felt my nipple area wet looked down and and pulled back my top and my there is a wet patch on top and nipple wet, dont know why i did it but squeezed my nipple and was amazed that out came some creamy yellowy coloured fluid?

It is strange because I was saying to my sister last week that just recently I have been having a kind of let down reflex feeling in my nipple and found it a bit weird when it happened...now this.

Anyone else have this/ is it normal so long after having children.

Well ladies, my guess is then, we are just incredibly good lactators

I don't really suppose there is anything to worry about, but I might mention it in passing next time I venture into the surgery, probably in about 3 years when all 4 are finally at school

Tidgypuds · 06/08/2008 21:29

Oh thanks for that RusselBrussel I am feeling much better now.

Imagine Gp won't have a clue to be honest. one of those things that would only get mentioned on MN .

Tidgypuds · 06/08/2008 21:37

Yes you are probably right Madcol, they will no doubt do their usual of well come back if its still happening in a month.

Think I might still go though.

Tidgypuds - I had this too last year, more than a year after stopping breast feeding. It was in one nipple, and just small amounts of milky-creamy stuff (sorry TMI !) I was really worried as I am a bit of a hypochondriac, and was obviously thinking breast cancer, etc. I went to GP, he was sympathetic but could not find reason. Anyway, it went away after a while.

Just go to your GP anyway, to give you peace of mind.

Tidgypuds · 06/08/2008 22:27

Thanks littledorritt, that does put my mind at rest.
I have been feeling broody just recently if im honest maybe that has something to do with it also.

Tidgypuds, I have just worked out why your name was so familiar to me.

I have just remembered (after searching recent threads I am on looking to see if you were there too ) that it is my ds's nickname. Or rather he was tidgypud when he was little, now at age 8 he is The Tidge

theyoungvisiter · 06/08/2008 22:33

sorry, haven't read all the thread but I used to be able to express a bit of fluid prior even to having children.

I went to the docs about it as it can be a rare sign of breast cancer (highly unlikely though, so don't worry) but was reassured that it was nothing - just hormonal, and possibly due to being on the pill.

I've also read that once you have had kids you never lose the ability to lactate - it's just dormant - so it's probably possible to lactate again with adequate stimulation?

Worth seeing a doctor about just for a breast exam if nothing else - but don't worry too much.

chipmonkey · 06/08/2008 23:39

Can also be a sign of a problem with the pituitary gland so please do get it checked out, Tidgey. It's probably fine but better to be safe than sorry, especially as it's not been a regular thing since you stopped bf.

Tidgypuds · 07/08/2008 10:14

Thanks to you all for your advice and experiences, I called the practice this morning and they had a GP call me back.
She said that it could be a hormonal imbalance or a sign of an infection, they want me to go in this afternoon to do a little swab and send it off to find out.

RussellBrussel - Good nickname for your son

Chipmonkey - yes better to be safe than sorry, I agree.

Will let you know how I get on later.

Been to Doc's this afternoon, after a breast examination (no lumps or bumps) she took a swab of fluid which they are sending off this afternoon and test results should be back tomorrow.

She thinks more than likely it is an infection.
She said breast infections can be tricky to treat as the infection is sometimes deep inside the breast tissue and needs a certain type of AB and wants to wait until the results of the swab come back before she prescribes the correct ones.

I have to have a blood test too, this is to check hormone levels.

Will find out more tomorrow.

Good that it's all being checked out Tidgy!

girlnextdoor · 07/08/2008 18:18

get it checked out- I had something similar 20 years ago pre- children. had been on pill.

Was sent to breast clinic for x rays etc etc but told it was prob hormonal and too much prolactin.

But you do need to go to dr as any discharge from nipple in ANY WOMAN needs checking out- don't assume it is normal but don't assume it is cancer either- just get it checked.

A good girlfriend of mine’s youngest is 7 years and she still produces breast milk/ colostrum. My youngest is 3 and there are still signs of colostrum on my nipples. I get a let down feeling too. I also wonder if it’s because I’m broody! Another friend who’s youngest was 6 got freaked out by a doctor as she was still producing breast milk 5 years after feeding. She had a tonne of tests. She is perfectly healthy :) hope this helps.
