Sorry, I know it's not an enticing subject but yesterday I babysat for a friend and her DD (12 months) kept producing these strong, yeast smelling burps. She has been a baby who possets and now vomits regularly (so seems a bit refluxy) and suffers a lot from windy tum. She's often got a rock hard tum and looking after her yesterday was a revelation for me having heard much about it from Mum. The Doctor says it will go away/grow out of etc. Should she suspect lactose intolerance? Will anyone test at this age? Mum is worried if she cuts out lactose she will go from being intolerant to allergic, anyone know? She has put her on goats milk which was an improvement for about 1 week, then the same symptoms returned.

Was BF till around 9 mo and is a big, healthy looking baby which I think is why doc keeps saying not to worry.. But she seemed really uncomfortable to me yesterday. I was wondering about suggesting she gives her plain live yoghurt as I think she has quite a lot of fruity baby stuff.

Any ideas I can pass on to my friend? Thanks in advance

MY baby is lactose intolerant and has reflux - goats milk still has lactose in it so you need to get lactose free baby formuala from your doctor- it will not make her allergic. My baby still put on weight but never slept and was sooo much wind and diahorrea. It made so much difference changing her formula to the lactose free version. Yoghurt is a definite no no as it has loads of lactose in it although could be a good test to see if she is intolerant.
