Verdict on whether ds needs to go to A&E please

Ds1(7) fell off his bike in the park and seems to have somehow landed on his head (I heard the fall but didn't see how he landed). He was wearing a helmet. Complained that his head was ringing. Sat him down for 5 minutes then took him home. Since the he has just been lying on the sofa half-dozing and has now thrown up (some 1 and a half hours after fall). He is looking fairly pale but no sign of injury, though he is complaining that his head still hurts.

Per NHS website, throwing up means a trip to A&E. Realistic or a waste of time? I've seen NHS direct being rather quick to suggest A&E or dialling 999 before now.

Or call your GP if unsure and they will check him over as an emergency apt.

Ds hit his head once and GP checked for fractures and gave the all clear. He had milk concussion but no need to go to A&E.

throwing up can be a sign of concussion as can being pale and clammy. I always always err on the side of safety with kids and head injuries and will always say go to A+E. keep him awake and talking. it is likely to be nothing but to be sure

You really need to take him to A+E if he has been vomiting and is lethargic.

Probably all OK but you should get this checked, and I suspect A+E will be quieter now than if you wait till this evening.

Just be glad he was wearing his helmet, it could have been so much worse.

Thanks for the confirmation. NHS Direct said that as he had thrown up 2x then he should be checked out. He seemed to recover by the time we were seen by triage (1 hr and 20 minutes after arriving at the hospital!), and he was discharged shortly after.
