Infected chickenpox???

Hello everyone. I'm a first-time poster, so please excuse me if I do anything wrong!

My 8 month old ds has rampaging chicken pox - we are on about day 3 of it at the mo. One of the spots has gone yellow and crusty, and another few spots are kind of blood red. Is this normal? I.e. is this just part of the scabbing over process? Or are these spots infected, in which case do I need to see a gp?

Sounds normal to me especially if they have been scratched at.

If the surrounding skin starts to look red or any of the spot weepy, then they could be infected.

Sounds normal but I would take your DC to the doctors. My DS got chicken pox at 6 months old and my HV made me take him to the GP. He gave my son medication as apparently babies under 12 months can get major problems with chickenpox. I would think that day 3 is now too late to treat, but would still take to the GP to be sure!

Sounds normal to me - really bad news at this age - for you and them! We used calomine, piriton - but maybe not so good for yur 8 mth old, and loads of patience.

we all had it over xmas 5 years ago..one to remember ! but also its not very nice for adults

Thanks for the reassurance. I got turned away unseen from the GP's on day 1 - ho hum...
It is horrendous isn't it. Normally such a placid, happy baby, he's been inconsolable for periods over the past couple of days. This is driving me bonkers, and no doubt we still have at least a couple more 'bad' days to go! Thank god it's the weekend so hubby can help too!
