Got a phonecall at 5.30pm from the doctors saying that DS2's 2nd ear swab had come back and he needed a different antibiotic. I'm 99.99% certain she said it was to be taken with the amoxicilin he's already been prescribed - but was in such a panic as to how to get it before the doctors and chemist closed that I'm not 100% certain.

NHS direct being neither use nor ornament, and I'm just getting 100000's of highly baffling scientific websites when I google it.

I don't want to overdose him on anything by giving them together, but OTOH I do want to make he's taking the right medication.

thanks KatyMac

we're already expecting to be knackered - hence the reason that in among the shopping we've ordered to be delivered to the holiday park after we arrive are 2 x 3lt boxes of wine

right I'd better go and finish packing and get tidied up - wasted nearly an hour since the DS's went to bed early (voluntarily too!)

That will help

There is a Dixieland Jazz Concert at Fairhaven Water Gardens on Sunday afternoon - but I think that is a bit far for you without transport

Flucloxacillin and amoxicillin whilst both from penicillin family do cover a slightly different spectrum of bacteria. They are often given together very safely. There is even a drug called co-fluampicil which is pretty much a combination of them both. He will come to no harm taking both (except possibly some diarrhoea or vomiting...which can happen with any antibiotic).

NHS 24/OOH GP should be able to advise you on this kind of thing, what did they say?

Actually FAQ I have just had a major thought.

I do not know a single child that will take Flucox without spitting it back. It is the most foul disgusting, chemical that a human could possibly consume.

He will get a full dose of Amoyxl when you give it but I bet your bottom dollar you will struggle to get half a dose of Flucox into him (unless it is the originla GSK formulation which it rarely is). You might get away with bribary for a 4yo though.

Oh and Major warning it stains.

I now refuse to allow my GP to prescribe it. Well actually I haven't had the chance to refuse it yet but trust me I will because trying to get that stuff into them has been one of the most horrific experiences of my life.

hairy - NHS told me to ring OOH GP, who then didn't answer the phone initially, then when they did ring told me to ring an OOH pharmacy - shall investigate tomorrow when there'll be plenty open

DNA - thanks for the warning - DS2 has already had a full course of Amoxicilin, and it didn't clear the infection up (been oozing on and off for 2 weeks now!) shall bribe him with ice creams, sea life centre, and other such fun holiday things
