Not me, a relative.
Easy to treat or not?
Anything info would be appreciated.
TIA

Sorry to hear about your relative.

MY SM had stomach cancer last year. Had chemo to shrink the tumour before operating but unfortunately it led to her kidneys shutting down. Stomach was removed in last chance saloon op as tumour was so large. Had top surgeon at a London hospital (can find out who/where if in your relative's neck of the woods) checked out everything and cancer hasn't spread. Has problems eating certain foods, is painfully thin but at least she is alive and enjoying life, still travelling extensively. The key aspect to survival is whether it has spread/connected to anywhere else.

Depends how long they have had it.Most stomach cancers don't start "creating" symptoms/problems until someone has had it for roughly 2 years apparently.

In some cases, the "lucky" ones the Cancer is found whilst undergoing investigations for something else.

In my Dads case,he was on Warfarin (to thin his blood) and he just suddenly started vomiting blood whilst on holiday(maybe it was the rich food and increased alcohol intake)

The hospital presumed it was an ulcer, and put a camera down, took some biopsies, and he had Stomach Cancer.

When he came home,he went to University College Hospital in London, where they have a team of specialists in Stomach Cancer,he had part of his stomach removed, and then went on to have Chemotherapy.

We are told he was very very lucky to have "found" it so early, and apparently,"Fingers-crossed" he is cured. This was in August 2006,had the op in December 2006,today he eats normally and is healthy. He is followed up regularly to check for recurrence.HTH

Don't be tempted to google it (you'll only find worst care stuff!) but do look at the Cancerbackup web site:

www.cancerbackup.org.uk/Home

Its great, balanced, unbiased and you or your relative can access some great support networks too

Hope all goes well for them

Wow, that is quite positive, thanks to you both. The CT scan has shown that it has not spread to anywhere else so that is good news.
We have to wait until end of next week to find out what the next step is.
