21 Month old with small blisters - help?

My 21 month old has been exposed to Chix Pox recently but has developed small blisters that are quite hard. My doctor says shes never seen them like this and suggests we take a blood test to see if she has immunity. Has anyone ever seen this kind of thing. The spots are very much like chicken pox except smaller and harder. Look forwrd to hearing any info.

No - they are like tiny bubbles, with clear fluid except they feel hard. Someone suggested maybe they are dust mite bites?

my 26 mth old ds had three of them they started like little hard lumps the size of bites then turned into rings of clear fluid (like a donut) about the size of a 5pence peace.
if your dd has the same it will last about 3weeks untill they have fully gone.
and no no-one knows what they are.....

Sounds like hand foot and mouth to me - don't panic it's not as serious as it sounds, although it is contagious. It will go away by itself if that's it.

It's a virus and lasts about 4 to 6 days. There might be fever and a sore throat with it and the blisters are most often in the mouth, hands, bottom and feet, sometimes the face, although when dd had it they were only on the soles of her feet and her hands.

Then again I would have thought your GP would have seen hfm before...maybe you could ask.

thanks for that. These blisters are about aquarter of a centimetre (quite small)- bit bigger than a round pin head.

No - not hand foot and mouth, we've actually had that! It doesnt present like hand foot and mouth, the small spot/blisters are on her lower back, tops of legs, ankles and tops of feet. Thanks everyone - this is my first go at doing this.

maybe it is a mild form of chickenpox, if it is then hopefully your wee one will have had it now and wont get it again.

have you thought about seeing a diff doctor to see if they know?

thanks everyone. Spots have been there for about 5 days. She is happy in herself. Havent thought about 2nd opinion as our doctor is probably the best in our city - and has received many accolades - highly regarded and many people go to her for a 2nd opinion except she can't take any more patients on.

Then again i would have thought they'd have started to crust over by now. Is she scratching them?

Did the doctor go ahead with the blood test?

spots haven't really broken which is why its so odd as Chix pox blisters are so fragile. Doctor advised waiting 2 weeks to get blood test as it will take that long for the antibodies to work and for immunity to show. No she isn't itchy.

Are they red or creamy coloured ? Creamy small, fluid filled blisters might be molluscum contagiosum although think they normally appear in less exposed areas.

Is it urticaria (sp?) or also called nettle rash? My ds had this in all the places you've described, and it flummoxed doctors, but was identified by a practice nurse. He was also alright in himself, and I treated it with pyriton

It could be molluscum - my dd had that on her leg. They don't usually appear in more than one place, though. The other thing they sound similar to is flea bites - do you have a dog or cat?

Everyone thanks so much for your kind responses. WEll, I've looked up heaps of stuff on the net, I don't think its the molluscum virus because it just doesnt look like the sample on the web pages. Im moving towards thinking they are bites of some sort - either mosquito or possibly ant bites, or even maybe dust mites. It is just very strange, will let you all know the results of the blood test we are getting to see if it is immunity to the chicken pox. It may also be a reaction to a meningecoccal immunisation she has had but the specialists say this is unlikely. cheers again and thanks.

the way to identify a molluscum is that it has a little (slightly darker) indent right in the top of it
