My baby almost 13 months old has now fever for three days and floppy

I will take her to docter today but is this common? There is no other sign, no red blotches, cough, nothing. Just fever and floppiness. She has been extremely healthy all her life, had two cold but this is new. Please put my mind at ease. Thank you

I'm sure she'll be absolutely fine, they all have funny little unwell periods and its scary.
but the only thing that will put your mind at ease is the doctor.
have you made the appointment?

poor wee dot, definately doctor. how high is fever and has it broken at all or just constantly high? is she drinking/eating. is she wetting her naps etc. some ear infections can have no other symptoms than this.

keep her cool, tepid bath, padding pool in front room if shes feeling up to it? Sounds like she isnt though. Ring the doctor, she may have an ear infection?

If she is floppy and being less responsive you need to get her seen quickly. Ring GP now and see if you can bring her in asap.

Agree about the ear infection - they can be a bit nasty.

okay. She is at GP now with DH. Working at home at the moment. It's constantly high. At night it's worse and daytiem seems to be lower but today she's just sleeping all the time. drowsy/sleepy/floppy/moany cry/sits and leans on me still for hours which is completely unusual for her as she doesn't like to cuddle for more than 2 seconds usually.

This happened recently to DS, who is 15 months. He'd never had a fever so high, or been so lethargic, in his life. It turned out to be a virus, his first little flu, and we were told to keep the temp down (calpol and lukewarm baths, the latter really perked him up for a few hours) and keep him comfortable (lots of boob!).

poor wee scone. I hope it's nothing more sinister than a viral thing or easr infection. ear infections always make my DCs really listless and floppy.

We took her to do the doctor. She said there is nothing wrong with her, chest fine ear fine....gave me stuff to collect her urine sample so that she can check if it's UTI. Poor thing is completely floppy and has high fever still...hasn't moved all day and refuses to take calpol or more than 3 ounces of milk at a time.

vampbaby...trust your instincts on this. If you feel your DD needs medical attention, do take her to A&E.

I would contact NHS direct,how high is her fever?

Flu in adults can last a couple of weeks.
My DC's have never been down with anything more than 72 hours, MAX!

I'm worrying about your DD!

If she is still floppy i would really take her to A&E to get her checked out.
My son has febrile convulsions with a high temp and we have always found Ibuprofen(Neurofen) brings his fever down quicker than Paracetamol (Calpol).
How is she now?

its not that theres nothing wrong, its just that she couldn't find the focus of the infection. i hope your GP didn't day there was nothing wrong with a child with a high fever who is floppy. a urine infection is a possibility. if she deteriorates, call nhs direct and trust your instincts.
is she peeing ok?

Agree about the neurofen, def. worked quicker when my 3 year old had a nasty virus a couple of weeks ago, he was on the sofa for 5 days with it - it is scary when they are normally tearing around the house.

If she's not getting better i would take her to A&E -one where they have a paediatric bit.

vampbaby, has the baby's temp gone down at all after alternate nurofen and calpol doses? If she is still floppy and temp is still high I would also be inclined to go to A&E.

Thank you very much. My vamp just wouldn't take medicine, she just shakes her head and pushes it away. But Today she seems MUCH better, tires quick but lower temperature and eating LOTS. Thank you suppermamas!
