first tooth lost

My son has just lost his first tooth. It's one of the teeth on the bottom at the front. He turns 5 on Sunday and I thought that he wouldn't lose his teeth for another year. Is this normal? He doesn't have a dentist here yet; if anyone knows a good one in the Zurich/Winterthur region please tell me.

(He did make out pretty well-- the Tooth Fairy came and left him a bit of money. I almost saw her! When I got up to use the toilet in the middle of the night, I heard something in my son's room and saw a sort of glow. After I came out, I went to his room to check it, but whatever it was had gone. My son and I agreed it must have been the Tooth Fairy. )

COngratulations! DD was the first in her class to lose a tooth and she lost it about 1.5 months beofre her 5th birthday.

By the time she turned six, she had lost all 8 at the front.

Nice to hear you almost saw the tooth fairy. DD has entered into correspondence with the one that visits here

dd2 is just six and has 2 adult teeth through fully. She lost them when she was 5 too.

My dd is like SueW - she turned 6 just before Christmas and already has 8 teeth that look too big for her mouth - she was in Reception class - just over 5 when she lost her first, she was the first in her class too!!

Thanks. My husband got me a little paranoid.. not helped by friends saying "That's so young!".

My son woke up early to look for his Tooth Fairy money, but in his sleep had knocked it to the floor. He was crushed when he thought she didn't come.. so there I was, frantically scrambling around, looking for it. It worked out for the best; it was his "share" at Sharing Day (a semiweekly event at school) today.

Just because I think you might appreciate this: tonight while chopping chilli peppers for salsa I managed not only to flick some into my eye and smear some one my face (both of which I always do) but somehow, at the same time, flicked a seed up my nose. Can I just tell you that it hurt? Very irrelevant, I know. Just a titbit for those of you that are still reading.

Anyway, your replies cheered me up to no end. I'm willing to bet good money that your kids looked oh so cute with the gaps and big teeth. We've had our fair share of problems and it's such a relief to know that this is not another. (My son looks incredibly cute, also.. in case you're wondering. ) I'm so looking forward to the 8 teeth out thing. I'll bet two teeth through is such an old-lady-stopper (as around here the old ladies stop for anything charming) too. His first adult tooth (argh, just use the word "adult" in a sentence pertaining to my son) is poking its little head out.

Thanks again.

My dd just turned 6 hasn't got any wobbly ones yet but does have 2 back molars coming through. They are causing her a bit of pain, horrid to be teething again!

JJ · 27/01/2003 23:49

Oooh, I feel sorry for your daughter, CAM, I must have gotten mine in late because I can still remember how painful and uncomfortable they were.

Robin, I'll let you know about the inhaler tomorrow. We're going to the doctor then to start on the process of having him carry his own stuff. Sheesh, I'm nervous. Written into all of his guidelines is that if he says he needs the shots/inhalers then he does. (My son has food allergies and carries an EpiPen and inhaler.)

Sue, where does your daughter post her letters? You should hear my son's story about the Tooth Fairy now. It seems that I heard footsteps and saw some movement in his room...

CAM your DD sounds very much like mine who also has some adult molars.

Strangely an extra adult tooth seems to be poking it's head through behind the four that have already grown in at the bottom. I had a minor panic until speaking to a tutor recently - she has a DD whose teeth came in all over the place so they looked like three rows and now, at 14yo, following orthodontic treatment she has beautifully straight teeth.

SueW · 28/01/2003 07:32

Forgot to say = big OUCH on the chilli seeds.

SueW · 28/01/2003 07:51

DD posts her letters under the pillow, inside an envelope with her tooth.

Sometimes the tooth fairy replies (ouch, should never have gone there!) in tiny, tiny writing....
