Feel so sorry for her, she is in real discomfort.

I can see the poo coming out but it keeps going back in.

She had tummy bug last week and has not really pooed for two days and normally goes twice a day.

How can I help her get this poo out.

She wont eat, Ive been encouraging drinks and just about to give her a warm bath to see if that helps.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Sit her on the potty/loo and give her a balloon to blow up - it pushes the poo out without them noticing.

Poor love, hope she manages to get it out by tomorrow.

Give her fruit at EVERY meal, lots of Strawberries, mango, kiwi's, pineapple & grapes. but no bananas. No wholemeal bread & no wholemeal cereals. All this 'dry' fibre absorbs the water from the food, so the poo effectively dries up, becomes hard & then is very difficult to push out.

My DD1 had this problem for over a year & we ended up taking her to a private specialist.

Please don't go for the suppositories, they are horrible. The linseeds are good - but soak them in a small water - about 1 tsp, soaked for about 10mins - then follow with abeacker of diluted juice. They turn a bit slimy, so are easier to drink.

My ds's both suffered from constipation and I was advised to give a teaspoon of lactulose a day, every day. When ds2 was really constipated the GP told me to give him a big spoon of it to get him going. You can buy it over the counter from the chemist.

BUT lactulose makes the poo sloppy, so it's harder to pass.

Bulking agents are the better choice. DD1 was prescribed sodium docusate, but I think this is available from age 2.

Fruit, fruit & fruit + water is the way to avoid it.

prunes
orange juice

does she use a potty, or the loo?
Squatting position might help.

When all else fail and you're running out of options, using suppositories doesn't sound too horrible, believe me! The problem with eating linseed, fruit or anything for that matter is...that by the time they get to this stage, they DON'T WANT TO EAT ANYTHING.

What you and the others suggest are good ways to prevent the same thing from happening again, but don't help the current situation.

don't help = don't solve
