babies with low tone

Ds was born at term but was grunting so was sent to local nicu where they were also worried about his tone.
took him for a check up at 8 weeks and they are still concerned that he is floppy.
He has to go for another check up at 5 months.
has anyone else had this problem and should i be overly concerned?

Hi, my DD has hypotonia (the technical term for low muscle tone). She was very floppy at birth and was slow to roll over, crawl etc, but at nearly 2, she is now walking confidently. Search this site for info and you will see that hypotonia is more a symptom than a diagnosis in itself. In DD's case she has a few other things going on in addition to the hypotonia, so we accessed services pretty quickly. Have you been offered occupational therapy/physio or will that be dependent on the outcome of the paed appt?

We have to wait for the next appointment.
We had a letter come today that mentioned his hypotonia.
he is hitting all the other developmental markers smiling kicking turns his head when you talk etc. he is just very floppy in the neck.

DD was very floppy in the neck too, but it gradually got better. If you'd like some OT or physio you can probably contact them yourself, and ask for an assessment--you can do this where we live and they are v helpful.
