Baby - very loose motions and sore bottom - shall I switch food?

My 6.5 month old son has been suffering from very loose motions for a few days. His bottom is so sore under his doo-dah that it is nearly bleeding. He seems ok in himself.

Other then layering on the sudocream what can I do? He is on jars of Hipp etc and petit filous (fed from just after 5 months as he was ravenous and the milk just dod not satisfy anymore). This is basically because I did all the steaming, blending, ice cube business for my daughter and she as not interested in any of it. However no joke I can tell what he had to eat the night before by smelling his nappy before I take it off! His nappy will smell of shepherds pie if that is the jar he had the night before. His poo is also very orange when he has had carrot etc.

Do you think I should change his food/ go to doctor? And to what? I am afraid that he diet I am giving him is all wrong and may be the food that is upsetting his tummy but I dont really know what to do. Any advice? Thanks

Hi, my DS was fed on jarred food and petit filous as I had horrendous morning sickness and it was all I could do sometimes to open the jar.

His poo was obviously affected by what he ate but he only ever had that red bottom when teeth were imminent. Could it be that?

Is it spotty like nappy rash or burney red?

It is the line up the middle if you know what I mean and it is red raw. It looks like I have drawn a line in red felt tip!

stressed2007, I have the same problem but only when I feed by baby carrot jars so wa thinking she can't digest that....seems happy to eat it though! I would really recommend Ellas sachet foods from Tesco - very easy to feed -my baby likes them all except for the peach one!

Do you think there is any chance he may be teething? When he was teething, my little boy would have loose and very acidic smelling poo, which then caused excoriation of his skin- it was acidy enough to cause his skin to break down and bleed with one poo(IYSWIM) I used Cavilon(a barrier film normally used to protect the skin around colostomy fistulas) to give his skin a chance to repair itself - you have to buy it from the chemist, and it's about £12 for a tiny bottle, but it really does the trick

i think that you should see your health visitor or GP, he might need differnet cream.

kamillosan, which is a nipple cream, is actually quite good on sore bottoms, but it is expensive.

teething and poorliness might be making his bottom worse.

you can offer finger foods from this age, no jars needed, he can eat what you eat....

hi my 2 year old daughter is suffering from loose motions, vomiting. I tried homeopathy this time but it was of no use.. she is very weak and her condition worsened in three days... today i took her to an allopath and though she is not perfectly ok but the condition is much better.

she does not eat much though ... can u suggest some home made food which is interesting to eat and good in her condition.

Also she has bad rash on her bottom, any cures reccomended????

My baby is 5 1\2 montha and had developed diarrhoea and a very red sore bum, i also feed him Hipp food but never has he had a reaction to this. He is teething and see that others have found that to be a cause, is this true?
