Broken milk tooth

Hello,
My 10-month old son fell badly on his face this morning and broke one of his front teeth. It seems like most of the tooth is gone with maybe just a jagged bit left and his gum looks quite bruised. He was very upset when it happened, but has since calmed down and seems to be pretty much back to his normal self. I have made an appointment with a paediatric dentist for this afternoon and I'm just basically wondering what to expect and if there's anything I should do/not do in the meantime. Feel awful about this. Thanks.

this happened to my daughter her and her dad were playing and they bumped heads although in this case her tooth moved and was wobbly, well we took her to the dentristy hospital in belfast and they pushed it back in that child screeched her wee heart out.

i would imagine they will take it out if there is only a jagged bit left, mu daugghetrs started to lossen so they took it out so dont worry i know u feel bad but it happens to all of us, hope it goes ok

wee mite, if you can i would give him som calpol incase the pain is there, and if not it will help when he goes to dentist.

good luck let us know

xx

My DS2 broke his two front teeth age 10 months also. It looked terrible at first, I though they had broken practically level with his gum. However what had actually happened was that as well as being chipped they had been pushed into the gum, They came down naturally themselves again in a couple of weeks. It may not be as bad as you think. I took him to the dentist and was advised that they woundn't really be able to do anything with them asthetically speaking, however by the time he is three or four we may not even notice they are chipped, as milk teeth do wear down considerably. I have to say already they look better, just two months later. So he no longer has perfect little square teeth, they just look a little uneven. Sympathies to you and your little one, I too felt awful, I think I sobbed even longer than DS.

Thanks a lot for your replies and kind words. I'm just back from the dentist's office where they took an x-ray. Apparently most of the tooth (or the part that had come down) has indeed broken off. The sharp piece that's left should just wear down naturally over time (although they said that we can speed up the process with a nail file, but can't see myself doing that..). So now we just have to be sure to keep it clean because the tooth and gum is more susceptible to infection as a result.

I feel bad because these perfect little teeth had only just arrived, but I guess it's not the end of the world. And it's certainly reassuring to hear similar stories.

Thanks again!
