... by which time it would usually be well and truely over. I am a 7 day girl, and by day 7 it is nothing apart from a bit of old blood residue (**come on - you knew it would be TMI as soon as you clicked on this)

This time, I am still bleeding with large clots (I can feel them coming down - I refer you to ** above).

When will it stop? This is nothing to worry about is it?

Off for a bath (nuch needed). WIll be back shortly.

Not necessarily anything to worry about, but I would go to docs as they can give you something to stop it (of course, when it happened to me, and I went to docs on day 9, I got prescription, and went to chemist to get tablets next afternoon, and by them it had stopped!)
Are you on any form of hormonal contraception - sometimes this can just throw you out of kilter.

ranting · 06/07/2008 21:43

If it has clots, it is apparently a good sign, docs worry when there are no clots.

However, I had problems after I had dd with constant bleeding (6 weeks on, 1 week off) so if it doesn't lessen soon, I would get it checked out. Don't leave it (as I did) until it's been going on for a year.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 06/07/2008 21:44

Nope - got pregnant with a mirena coil last time (they never did find it), and so DH had the snip. SO I am not miscarrying or on any form of hormone contraception.

I usually do have really heavy periods at the start, and tbh this is not as heavy as that, just relentless and clotty - since Tuesday/Wednesday.

6 weeks on 1 week off!

don't even say that!

You're not peri-menopausal?

ranting · 06/07/2008 21:49

Chances are you'll stop soon but, if you don't, please go to the docs otherwise you'll become a tired, emotional wreck. Ain't worth suffering for.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 06/07/2008 22:31

I am already a tired emotional wreck DH is on guard duty this week so I have had the kids for the last 7 days all on my own, and work full time, and DD is nearly 2 and hell denmanding.

peri-menipausal? I am 38 so I guess that is a possibility - what are the symptoms?

OP posts:
NorthernLurker · 06/07/2008 22:33

do you know what age your mum hit menopause - that can sometimes be an indicator.

NoBiggyFinish · 06/07/2008 22:34

At the moment mine come along every 22 days, and last for 10 days. Which is horrible. I'm 39, so come on with this peri-menopausal info, please.

mummylin2495 · 06/07/2008 22:36

fletch i would see if there are any hints of fibroids.I had them and i used to be the same as you.

cadelaide · 06/07/2008 22:36

Can we have some kind of indicator/flag for any thread that includes "peri-menopausal"?

I'm in denial, you see.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 06/07/2008 22:41

To be fair I used to have Mahoooooosive periods with bad pain including down my legs. And no doctor has ever been interested, but since DD was born and I found you lot I have read it may be a symptom of something (endimetriosis or fibroids or something, can't quite remember).

Since DD was born (my third) it has been much better. Maybe this is just the sign that I am about to go back to really heavy clotty painful periods

OP posts:
mummylin2495 · 06/07/2008 22:45

i too refused to believe it fletch and i went on for years like it.I ended up with a hysterctomy but not until one of the fibroids grew to the size of a cricket ball !!!!

WigWamBam · 06/07/2008 22:47

It could be fibroids, it could be hormones.

You can get norethisterone from the GP to stop it if it keeps going, but that may be just a temporary fix (and if you're like me, the tablets will turn you into a troll-bitch from hell).

If it carries on, get a referral to a gynaecologist to rule out fibroids or anything more sinister. Chances are it's hormonal, in which case something as simple as the Mirena coil might help.

I had an endometrial ablation to stop my heavy, constant periods (months and months of bleeding was very wearing); it has worked brilliantly but is only an option if you don't want more children.

girlnextdoor · 06/07/2008 22:47

It's more likely you are suffering from a fibroid or another type of polyp- that's the good news, lol!

I doubt if you are peri- meno, simply 'cos it didn't hit me til i was 51! Had a few weird cycles late 40s, but nothing much.

Get your dr to check you out for fibroids- my friend has alarge one nad bleeds a lot- she is 50 and thought it was meno, but dr says no- blood tests all fine- and says it is her fibroid.

One final thought- the snip doesn't always work/last ( some mens bit s join up again!!) so always do a PT if unsure!

mummylin2495 · 06/07/2008 22:48

just to let you know that in many cases fibroids shrink as people do go into the menopause. This wasnt the case for me as they put me on hrt which in fact made them grow !!!

mummylin2495 · 06/07/2008 22:50

anyway fletch hope you soon get sorted out ,im off now ,pop over and see us !!!

SubRosa · 06/07/2008 22:51

OP: if you've got pain radiating down your legs, get it checked. Large fibroids can cause this.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 06/07/2008 22:52

Mummylin @ cricket ball

WWB - I am not going back to a mirena, didn't like some of the side effects and it was there for contraception, which it singularly failed at so I have taken against it in a (probably irrational) way. No more children are planned, and DH has had the snip.

GND - not PG, started on time, just not finishing on time.

OP posts:
girlnextdoor · 06/07/2008 22:54

If you DO have a fibroid they can remove it- my neighbour had one the size of a grapefruit removed- she was having awful bleeding each month.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 06/07/2008 23:05

GND - if this continues I will deffinately consider that. I thought that the promise of lighter periods after childbirth had finally happened (didn't after my first two), but this isn't nice at all. Twice this week in work a clot came out and I gushed so much that it came through my tampon and pad and onto my trousers (** see OP for statement on TMI) (happened at sports day as well on Friday).

I will take a "watching brief" I guess. See if this is a one off, and how long it lasts, it has lessened a bit since then.

OP posts:
NormaStanleyFletcher · 07/07/2008 23:18

OK - just recalculated and today is actually day 11. Still clots. A bit slower

mummylin2495 · 08/07/2008 00:20

get yourself down the docs fletch.at least he will be able to check things out for you.
