Would having an internet router in a room stop you using it as a playroom?

Since going wireless, we no longer use our study, so i was hoping to turn it into a playroom. however, i'm not sure how happy i am with the internet router thing in the same room. What do you think?? Advice please..

Why not? Don't understand.

My playroom has a router. Why would it be a problem for you?

mollysawally · 06/07/2008 15:55

My router is in my living room, why does it matter where it is?

RambleOn · 06/07/2008 15:55

Oh, do you mean electromagnetic radiation?

If so, don't worry. The signal is very low power comparatively speaking. And it radiates throughout your house anyway.

RambleOn · 06/07/2008 15:56

Electronic engineer btw. Your mobile phone is worse imo.

barbiehouse · 06/07/2008 16:09

yes, it was from a radiation point of view. i appreciate that you get it throughout the house anyway, but wasn't sure if any exposure would be significantly greater at close proximity. I don't know much about it , needless to say.

It's not exactly ionising radiation.

Ours is in the playroom. The kids aren't glowing in the dark, yet

Personally myself and dp have decided not to put the wireless router in our our DS's bedroom where it wuld be much more convenient.

I am aware of being a bit 'overcautious' about this issue but I feel the jury is till on the fence about the issue of EMR, other countries take a quite different view from our government. Also. and I know this is purely anecdotal but two people (both in their thirties) have recently been diagnosed with brain tumours, both of them have had high powered jobs which required them to be on their mobiles for many hours a day. Of cours this could be co-incidence etc etc but it just seems odd.

Given a choice I would not put any wireless equipment in a room where kids will spend long periods of time.

Sorry meant to say tw people myself and dp know have recently been diagnosed.....

Exactly my point will - mobile phone use much worse. I have monitored the 'heating effect' of holding a mobile phone to your head with thermal imaging - mine gets used far less often now for calls. And don't get me started on pylons and sub-stations..

But, wireless router is lower power and less dangerous imo

I think the main concern is to keep wires away from little hands that fiddle. Could you not put your router up on a shelf out of reach?

I recently went to the Vitality Show, and bought a product called PhoneShield, a radiation protector that simply attaches to my mobile & gives me peace of mind that i am being protected.
