Dr told me told take Neurofen (has iritated my stocmach!)

Osteopath has told me not to sit down, bend down or lift, and to use ice pack regularly.

It HURTS!

Sneezing is hell, I can't blow my nose, and lookng after DC's in the summer holidays is going to be no joke.

Will I be like an OAP forever? Please, please somebody help, or atleast tell me it will get better.

I've got it too at the moment! Only seems to come on at night though, which makes for a very bad night of sleep.
Usually gets better on it's own in my case, but pilates based exercises help. Walking around gently does too.
Poor you. It's sooooo painful.

fatzak · 06/07/2008 09:35

Oh poor you. I have had two spells of a bad back this year and would never ever have imagined how painful it could be. I think the osteopath saved my life so I hope yours is as good. Can you get anything stronger from the Dr? I ended up on Co codomal 30mg plus diflofenac (sp??) which finally did ease the pain.

I couldn't even sit down on the loo. Had to wee standing up into DS's potty

Thankyou for the sympathy - not getting much around here!

Will go back to GP for something stronger in the morning.

I had a burst of it recently, it lasted a bit over a week and was incredibly painful. I have a physio friend who showed me some exercises and that helped a lot, but first I had to find my trigger point for the pain and numb the nerve with ice before doing any stretches, otherwise it's counterproductive.

I only did the exercises about three times but kept myself mobile and it seems to have done the trick. There's a bit of residual pain if I sit at a dodgy angle but nothing too awful.

Anti-inflamatory pain relief is best for treating the inflamed nerve, paracetamol etc won't do much for it.

I hope you get some help with the gp.

I suffer from it chronically along with other back and leg problems.

Ask your GP to be referred to your pain clinic and ask for an epidural (not the same as a childbirth one).

In the meantime it is anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen and finding whatever position is comfy. It will subside but you do have my sympathies.

Co-codamol and diclofenac work brilliantly, just watch you don't get constipated with them. I found sciatica interferred with my periods, made me stress incontinent and affected my bowels.
DH has considered having me to the vet for euthenasia, bless!
