Heat rash or Roseola?

Wallace · 06/07/2008 06:57

Ds2 (23m) has had a high temperature, then he came out in a rash. We presumed it was a heat rash. But it is all over him, even his arms which haven't been covered in clothes.

I hope it isn't anything infectious because we were seeing a 4 week old baby the other day.

Anyone know how to tell if it is heat rash?

What sort of rash is it? Is it flat and red? slightly raised? blisters? round?

Is he complaining of a sore throat?Does he still have a fever?

Wallace · 06/07/2008 16:57

raised spots, but not blistery. the ones on his face are all sort of joined up together.

He is grumpy, but not really unwell, and a wee bit hot. The ras does seem to get redder when he gets hot, so maybe it is heat rash?

Has he had all of his jabs or been in contact with anyone ill?

avenanap · 06/07/2008 17:01

Are his glands swollen? feel under his chin and at the back of his neck. can you feel any lumps?

Wallace · 06/07/2008 17:08

I would give NHS Direct a call. It sounds like he has an infection so he needs seeing by a doctor as soon as you can. It may just be a virus but it should be checked, especially as he has a fever. You can tell if it's a heat rash by looking at the rash with a magnifing glass if you have one. You will see a pore. Keep giving him fluids, calpol and ibuprofen. He does need to see a doctor really.

Thanks, I'll take him to the docs tomorrow if he is still spotty.

Rash very faded this morning, and he seems okay

Just to let you know, ds had a fever over the weekend with a sore throat. He developed a rash this morning and the GP says it's scarlet fever and has given him antibiotics.

I'd take him to the GP.

Wallace · 07/07/2008 20:54

Your poor ds, hope he gets better soon xx

I'm pretty sure it isn't scarlet fever, my older two had probably SF earlier in the year and ds2's rash is more spotty. I don't think he has had a sore throat either, but hardto tell at his age

Sounds like Roseola (or similar virus) - dd had it recently - v high temp for 3 days, then just as temp dropped, rash came out and faded after a few days. She was otherwise ok (a bit whingey when her temp was high)

Wallace · 07/07/2008 21:03

Did your dd's rash get redder when she got hot? Whenever ds is in the car his face goes redder again.

Yes it did - felt quite hot as well but didn't appear to be itchy , from what I could tell

I did take her to the GP though - they just checked glands/throat etc (to rule out measles I think).
