I am not quite sure how I feel about this....trying to see the positive but quite astonished that its happened.
2 years ago I had a ruptured ectopic pg and lost my left fallopian tube. The whole experience was horrible because I was rushed in with internal bleeding and the information we were given was sketchy to say the least.
We've been TTC since then with no luck so we're in the process of IVF. Obviously the presumption was my age (41) and the fact that I was a tube down were the reasons for our problems.
So......this morning I had a hysterosalpingogram (v long word, v unpleasant procedure) where they inject dye into your tubes and uterus to check for any problems. As the nurse was watching the xray on the screen she suddenly urgently said to the radiographer "whoaaaa-go back to picture 3" to which she replied "I know exactly what you're going to say" and there on the screen were clear as day 2 fallopian tubes. Everyone was a bit shocked tbh because it was there in my notes FFS that my left tube had been removed.
I realise that this is potentially great news but I am just in shock that we have thought for 2 years I had one tube when infact they're both still in there! (albeit not working but still in there!)
Sorry-thats a bit of a rant

rant away, I would say you had every right.

TheProvincialLady · 04/07/2008 19:01

I mean it is good news in a way but I can't believe you were told otherwise.

itati · 04/07/2008 19:02

OMG I thought you were going to say your were pg already.

What has happened and what are you going to do now? What did the radiographer say?

itati · 04/07/2008 19:03

you were...

SlightlyMadSweet · 04/07/2008 19:05

It depends how much of the tube they removed.

If it was a (comapratively) small amount of the tube that you lost it is possible for it to fuse back together and create a "tube".

lol itati-pregnant since this morning? Wince Don't think I'll ever have sex again after that catheter was up there.
The radiographer was as shocked as everyone else tbh. I don't think it'll make any difference to going ahead with IVF. Somethings not working properly down there!
Slightlymadsweet-is that possible? That could be the answer then-though it was flowing perfectly well into the uterus.

it is certainly possible. It is one of the reasons that sterilisation (having your tubes tied/cut) isn't 100% as the human body is pretty amazing and tubes once cut can become tubes again.

greenlawn · 04/07/2008 20:00

Goodness, what a shock! Could they tell if the tube was clear or not? (sorry not very experienced in this sort of thing, but I assume that was what the procedure was to show). Good luck with the IVF I really hope all goes well.

spook · 04/07/2008 22:05

The tube was clear Greenlawn. Well-the revolting dye was flowing through Its a fallopian mystery!
