4 year old with diarrhoea but really hungry - do you feed them?

My dd 4 has a really runny tummy - she's had it since yesterday afternoon - occasionally she grabs her tummy and says it hurts. Runs to the loo, has a massive runny explosion (sorry TMI) and the carries on as if nothing has happened. She is constantly hungry though so it's not affected her appetite and she's spent the morning playing very energetically with her friend and apart from these occasional explosions she's absolutely fine in herself. She goes to the loo about once every hour or so - and it's not nice!

Anyway, my question - I guess she has some sort of gastro bug - and given her appetite is fine, is it OK to keep feeding her? I'm laying off milk which I think isn't good for tummy upsets but she's really hungry and i'd rather not starve her but am I doing her more harm by letting her eat relatively normally?

Do I need to go to the docs (my feeling is that she'll be fine in a day or so)....
Thanks

Plain rice,
plain toast and bread,
apple juice and apples

are all fine.

BRAT is the acronym you need to remember for foods that are ok for recovery from a tummy upset. It stands for:
Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast.

So apple sauce rather then apples.

Thank you Belgo...

I have it as BRATY - which includes yoghurt (plain and live, of course).

Yes definately - try carb based - potatoes, rice, crackers, bread, cereal. Avoid dairy, and too much fruit and veg.

is pasta ok? What would you put with it? She's a really picky eater and pasta is her "thing"... thanks again

God yes to OP, I would only avoid foods that tend to make them runny, anyway (like prunes, too many grapes, etc.)
