This can be a buggar to shift. However, I have a different but apparently effective solution.....get someone to 'buy' it off you!! Seriously, I have seen this work twice ( and I'm not one for superstition/old wives tales etc.) I was looking after a little girl who had this and her uncle gave her 50p for it...it was gone within 2 weeks . A few years later, my colleague's husband had it. I told her the story about the little girl and she laughed! However, she came to me a few weeks later saying that it had gone after she 'bought' it off him . Could be coincidence? Only other advice is to see GP for cream/lotion.

quickest way to get rid of it is scratch them off so they get a bit infected so your body realises it's there and deals with it.

dd2's kept getting knocked and she said they hurt her so I took her to the GP who gave her some ointment that's normally used for genital warts (called Imiquimod - it's unlicensed for children in the UK) - there's a strict application timetable you have to stick to and we only applied it twice and they all went!

apparently it doesn't work for everyone though

greenlawn · 02/07/2008 14:20

I pinched off the largest one - you have to pinch, not squeeze it - and the rest disappeared very quickly. This was after being told they only last for up to a year, and ds2 still having hundreds 2 years later! BUT - be careful as they bleed lots, and also you can be left with a little pitted scar (like a chickenpox scar).

sadiemm2 · 02/07/2008 14:20

My GP laughed and said he won't do anything except when I've got 50+ then he'll burn them off! Also would treat if they were sexually transmitted, the git. I'll see if the little SOD who gave it to me will buy them back!:O

how unsympathetic

is it a group practice?

sadiemm2 · 02/07/2008 14:23

Ta for the advice, I will go back and ask for Imiqiumod...he can only say no..i wish I could remeber the website I bought the aromatherapy oil from, when we all had it it worked a treat!.

only dd2 had it in our family i think the contagious tag is a bit of a misnomer!

sadiemm2 · 02/07/2008 14:26

No..just one little misery in a tiny cupboard..I am in the process of changing Docs. He laughed at me when I had some bleeding last year ( don't ask) but it turned out after a colonoscopy, that I hade precancerous bowel polyps. he's not a very good G>P but the only other lOcal practice has been closed to new Patients for 18 monthsdue to expansion...nearly done so can join..yippee!

he was mean to my six year old too.. she has just had a shingles type virus and he told her it was an allergy to her cuddly toys and went to put her ted in his clinical waste bin, then he put it in his rubbish bin and sent us out!! I had to go back in and get it. He's just so weird!

It's a virus so make sure you have clean hands and squeeze it until the centre comes out (like squeezing a pimple). Best done in the bath when the skin is nice and soft. Make sure that you wash your hands afterwards so that you don't spread it. If it bleeds, just press a clean tissue against it until it stops. My D had a few of these on her back and I dealt with them and put a dab of sudacrem on them afterwards and it was all fine. No scarring and they haven't come back.

FrannyandZooey · 02/07/2008 22:18

could someone describe what they look like please? I think ds has ONE on his hand, but it doesn't look anything like the picture on wikipedia

it is small (pinhead sized), whitish, with what looks like a tiny pearl inside

if I just leave it will it drop off eventually? do I need to do anything as it is just the one?

pointydog · 02/07/2008 22:36

tea tree oil is said to help - I'm a bit sceptical.

GP said to us the only answer is to burst them (with clean hands or gloves) then dab with alcohol. However, it is so painful to burst them that he certainly wouldn't recommend this for children.

They don't drop off, fran. They eventually burst when they rub on something and there is a lot of bleeding and the infection can be spread when they burst.

cupsoftea · 02/07/2008 22:39

my dd had this - eventually after about 2yrs went. My ds has this & the spots just dry up, stay and then go. One has dried up & the white part fallen out leaving a mark like chicken pox.

Thankyouandgoodnight · 03/07/2008 07:27

They look like this.

My DD was a year old when she had about 6 on her back and I dealt with them in the bath after she's been in for a while and she wasn't concerned in the least. Then I dried her off and dabbed sudacrem just to keep it all 'clean'.

FrannyandZooey · 03/07/2008 08:10

well ds's does not look like that picture

what has my ds got, I wonder?

pointy, thanks. Sounds delightful.

pointydog · 03/07/2008 08:43

It was pretty excrutiating for the dds when dh insisted on trying to pop a ocuple. They were around 9/10

Thankyouandgoodnight · 03/07/2008 09:43

But women are always better at popping zits generally anyway .

I agree - out of the bath - not good!

sadiemm2 · 03/07/2008 13:18

thanks for all the advice, my dd is quite open to the idea of a gentle squeeze- she is a gruesome minded child anyway!Loves to see a good graze etc thanks all!

In a fit of boredom and curiosity I attempted to squeeze whatever ds has this morning

was not a success

and i don't think it was molluscum

Thankyouandgoodnight · 03/07/2008 19:50

A wart??
