Pink powdery marks in nappy

Our baby (first one so I am typical paranoid mother) is 3 months old today and a couple of times in the last few days I have noticed pink powdery marks in his nappy - as he had when he was first born. I know this is normal in newborns but am worried that it isn't a good sign in a 3 month old. He has also been doing some rather green and runny poos. He seems fine and happy BUT we live in Spain and the thermometer has hit the high 30s in the last few days so perhaps he is dehydrated. He is breastfed and I have been feeding him as usual (roughly every 3 hrs and letting him feed as long as he wants, basically) but have not given him any extra water or anything like that.

Going to doc tomorrow anyway so will ask him but wanted to ask here too:

  1. Does anyone have a clearer idea than me about what the ominous pink powder might mean?

  2. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to make it go away?

Thanks in advance!

Think it might be uric acid crystals due to mild dehydration, so up the fluids, either from yourself or cooled boiled water. It's probably a combination of the heat and having looser poop so losing more fluid that way than usual.

I agree with vole.

cool, thanks. Thanks also for saying "mild" I am not sure how much water to give him though - don't want him to get all full up on water, if you see what I mean...

If he's taking it from you, then up the frequency, but make sure you drink extra to compensate. Also swap sides every 5 to 10 mins during each feed to delay getting the hindmilk. This will mean he gets more of the watery foremilk (drink).
As long as he's producing wet nappies as well as poopy ones then he's fine.

Try just offering him little snacky feeds in between his regular feeds.

Thanks everyone Just got back from docs and before I evevn had a chance to tell him about the scary pink powder/dehydration worries, he told me that I should give him boiled water as well as feeding him - because the weather is getting so hot. So, will do! And will hope it doesn't get too much hotter, although I think it will...
