11mo with tummy bug - when should I start BFing him again?

My DS has been sick three times this afternoon, and I'm not sure if it's a tummy bug or a bad reaction the the orange my DH was feeding him...

He had a breastfeed after throwing up for the second time, but he threw that up abut half an hour later. I think his tummy must be empty now as it was just milk/bile (sorry for TMI). I put him to bed with just a couple of sips of water, and I've got the monitor turned right up so i can hear if he stirs again.

My question is, when should it be OK to start BFing him again? He usually has 2 or 3 feeds in the night, but I don't want to feed him if it's going to make him sick and upset him again.

Shall I just give water if he wakes? Or try a BF and see if it stays down?

Will be back to check replies later - I need a shower, as having congealed orange segments mixed with cheese omelette and peach yoghurt in my bra is no fun at all...

I think you are supposed to keep bf through sickness, diarrhoea although little and often might be better than a big feed.

I would try BF first as it will give him comfort as well as nutrition. If he can't keep it down then maybe wait until morning before trying again.

I would feed him whenever he asks for it and maybe lay off the solids a bit until you think the worst has passed.

BF'ing will be a comfort to him and will also help hydrate him.

i think too you are meant to just carry on bf through it. its the most easily digestable for his little tummy. hope he feels better soon. tis no fun looking after a vomiting child

Thanks everyone, he is a bit better today - very sleepy but managing to keep his milk in his tummy It's a bit like having a newborn again...feed, sleep, feed, sleep...
