I have some more questions about mooncups

I have one, I think it's brilliant, but I can't work out how it works. I have shorter, lighter periods and they are less painful. Why? Is it magic?

There might be only one thing for it Takver - kegels!

WhipMeIndiana · 29/06/2008 20:05

I like having 'roomy' bits

maybe its my enormous epi scar but having a bit of breathing space makes sex more possible....

Takver · 29/06/2008 20:09

Overall, the moving around isn't such a problem - actually, I think its only happened twice, its just that once was yesterday! I wondered if it might have been due to energetic cycling wiggling it?

The main problem is just that it isn't comfortable - perhaps I could try the twisting and rotating and see if that would get it to stay a bit further up. I think my pelvic floor is pretty bouncy - haven't had any other related problems. I think maybe it is uncomfortable because it is sitting too low - is is especially an issue when I'm cycling or sitting down on a hard chair.

I also find that I'm pushing it almost out whenever I go for a pee, which is annoying, as it means taking it in & out much more often than I'd otherwise have to.

FrannyandZooey · 29/06/2008 20:15

ah, now you mention it, I find cycling makes it a bit moveable at times, myself

it does sound like you either need a different size, or have rather over effective pelvic floor muscles, or are a bit loose but I don't think so

Takver · 29/06/2008 20:18

I will try lots more floor exercises [counts to 5 while typing] and persevere with this one for a couple more months - if it doesn't get any more comfy, I might try a smaller one & see how that goes. It hasn't leaked, anyway, which has to be a good thing. Thanks for all the advice, its not exactly the sort of thing you can ask around the school gate about!

girlandboy · 29/06/2008 20:58

I have to push my mooncup quite high up; further up than is stated in the booklet. I can feel it otherwise. It also seems to get drawn in further on it's own. There is no way that I am inserting it as high as it ends up!!! It needs a good few downward pushes to be able to reach it.
I have trouble twisting and rotating it to check the seal - it's just too grippy.
I think we are all different, and what suits one person, doesn't suit another.
Practise makes perfect.

hunkermunker · 29/06/2008 21:01

I'm kinda tempted to do an experiment involving full mooncups and tampons now [schlurp]

Takver · 29/06/2008 21:12

Well, I've put it back in again - like you say girlandboy I can definitely feel it if it is right low down. I had a go at twisting and rotating, but I'm not sure that I actually moved it. Its a bit higher up now and I think that is more comfortable. Perhaps I just need to get used to the fact that I can feel it a bit anyway - I guess that I can feel that I am wearing towels, I'm just used to them.
I look forward to the results of your scientific experiment hunker

FrannyandZooey · 29/06/2008 21:16

Takver agree that if it is comfortable for you higher up, keep wearing it that way
some people wear it right up the top, as I understand it
the average person seems to find it more comfortable lower down, but we are indeed all shapes and sizes

MagdaleneBunting · 29/06/2008 21:31

Might it not be a case that you just can't measure what's in a tampon? They actually always seemed carp at absorbing the - erm, how shall I put this - the thicker blood and seemed to repel it rather than absorb it.

If you were going to measure it you''d need to weight the tampon before and after. The mooncup is much more simple.

(BTW it is I, MT, in disguise)

MagdaleneBunting · 29/06/2008 21:32

crap not carp - forgive the 'fish' typo and in this thread too!

katch · 01/07/2008 10:40

Takver, if it's pushing out when you're on the loo, I would say that's a definite case of the pelvics. I've had mine for several years, but as I get older I find the same thing happens (clenches).

ScaryHairy · 01/07/2008 10:43

The OP is really interesting.

I don't use a Mooncup but have stopped using tampons and have noticed that I have much shorter periods.

My theory is that tampons bunged everything up and actually prevented the blood from coming out as quickly as it otherwise might have done.

My periods do seem a little lighter, but that may just be because I am noticing what comes out for the first time.
