How much poo is too much poo?

DS2 is nearly 22 months old and poos for England!

He will do one, get cleaned up by yours truly and then within 10 mins (like just now) he's done another one. I go through nappies like nobody's business (thank god for washables, otherwise I'd be bankrupt)

Now, the poos themselves are always light in colour and mucousy. His poos have always been a bit weird tbh. He did dark green poo until he started eating solid food (and he was breastfed)

I'm no poo expert, but is this normal?

Toddler diarrhoea, m'dear. Have a look here.

Lots of young children are like this - in all likelihood it doesn't need treating, and he'll grow out of it as he gets older.

My DD poo'ed once, then again, and again. It was because her bowel is longer than normal and so more poo formed in it and when she went she had to expel all of them. She has stopped now as she has grown and her bowel has straightened out a bit more.

He's had similar from birth - can that be attributed to TD too?

dd2 is 22m and I can count the no. of solid poos she's had on one hand

She sometimes fills a nappy 3 or 4 times a day

DS1 had toddler diarrhoea at the same age, but DS2's poo is so mucousy and has been since birth. I have asked the HV numerous times, but she's about as much use as a chocolate teapot

dd2's isn't mucousy though. More of a chilli-con-carne type

Thanks Bernard

My DS had 'toddler tummy' from birth until 3 years. We got through around tons of nappies & clothes, and soaping down car seats, buggies etc was part of our daily routine. It does pass, but is a bit of pain while it lasts. Do get a second opinion though. If you've only mentioned it to your useless HV then I'd try asking your GP. I think mucus can sometimes mean a child isn't digesting food properly, but if your lo's weight is okay then it's probably nothing to worry about.

IME Boys poo for Britain anyway. And it doesn't change when they become adults!

haven't eaten chilli for ages and having it tonight! my 11 month old poos about 10-15 times per day. dreading the potty training. sometimes it's runny somtimes not. wasn't too worried about it but it is a real pain

ooh yuk ds2s poo was utterly hideously pale, sloppy and stank to high heaven. turned out he had a mild milk intolerance (and boy did that boy drink alot of milk!!!). put him on lacto-free milk and it was cured
