Can you help me identify this mystery rash please?

It's on my arms, upper trunk, face, neck, thighs and in between my toes. Its worse in nooks and crannies like the crook of my elbow for instance, and in a wide ring like a necklace around my neckline.

It's red and blotchy and slightly itchy - itchiest between the toes.

I am nearing the end of a course of antibiotics for a chest infection - it wasn't severe.

It's hot here - 83 degrees and I did sit out in the sun for a short while yesterday, but no more than usual.

it could be a prickly het thing and anti biotics has made your skin more sensitive or maybe dermatitis have u worn costume jewellry?

anorak · 29/06/2008 14:07

I didn't wear jewellery yesteday.

I wondered if it was a heat rash but it's hot here a lot of the time and I've never had it before - would a heat rash appear so quickly and extensively when I'm no hotter than any other day?

And it's my 10th day on the antibiotics so I wonder if it might have appeared earlier if it were those?

i dunno tbh could it be a perfume thats irritated you ?

anorak · 29/06/2008 14:31

Thanks for your suggestions windy.

I haven't worn any new creams or perfumes, only the same ones I've used for months or years.

I am supposed to be going out for lunch with some people I've never met before - can't decide what to do now.

What antibiotics were they? Some make you more photosensitive and can give you a rash in sunlight.

You could take some antihistamine and apply Eurax if it's itchy.

I had amoxi clav and azithromycin.

I also think it could be the medication, either a reaction to the medication itself, or it's made you more sensitive to the sun.

Sidge · 29/06/2008 14:59

Azithromycin lists photosensitivity as one of the potential side effects, so it is probably that. Stay out of the sun until the course is finished, and the rash should settle down fairly quickly.

I finished the azithromycin on Tuesday (I had a 5 day course of it, and a 10-day course of the amoxi clav which I will finish today) The rash only came up last night.

I got some capsules of an acidophilus complex to prevent thrush and I am wondering if it's that.

As well as acidophilus is contains bifidobacterium lactis and longum, lactobacillus paracasei and strep. thermophilus.

I have used acidophilus before but not in a complex like this and I am wondering if it is one of the other organisms in the complex.

I will lay off the acidophilus complex for a couple of days and see what happens. Will get thrush instead

Hmm, hard to tell then whether it's the azithromycin still in your system giving you the rash, or the acidophilus, or if it's a heat rash and is all coincidental!

Hope it clears up soon.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
