DD's thumb nail is disintegrating - could it be from using 1% hydrocortisone cream?

She's been prescribed the hydrocortisone from her GP which we use sparingly for flare ups on her wrists, back of hands and one thumb (areas affected) and diprobase inbetween.

I have noticed that the thumb nail is developing an increasingly larger hole at the cuticle end - could this be from the cream does anyone know?

I'm no expert at all, but perhaps it could be the hydrocortisone, as that takes off layers of skin, so maybe it's stripping off layers of nail?
When you put diprobase on, do you apply a thick layer and leave it to sink in itself or rub it in?

Does she suck that thumb?

Its just that DS's nail used to do this when he was a big thumb-sucker

I've just spotted it happening on the other thumb nail too!! She doesn't suck her thumb and it's just the cuticle part - really wierd.

Maybe it's some kind of fungal infection. I would get her to the doc on Monday. It'll probably be easily solved with a cream.

I agree - fungal was my next thought and the pharmacist has confirmed it. To the Drs we go! Do you know what causes it? She's had a barrow load full of upper respiratory infections, conjunctivitis and now this.....there's always something!

Sounds like her immune system is taking a hammering with all the infections, and no doubt the anti biotics that went with them? This could mean it was easier for a fungal infection to take hold-just as women get thrush through ABs or when they are run down.

Yes, girlnextdoor is right. DH gets a fingal infection when he's run down.

Is there anything I can do or give her to help boost her? She's 18 months old and I am assuming that all this illness is because of nursery. Thankfully she seems fine in herself at the mo.

You could cut down on refined sugars in everything, as fungus feeds off sugars, and make sure she has loads of fresh fruit an veg etc. if not already!
